Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

 photo prog1_zps5r4zjmao.gif

When Rage started showing Countdown re-runs in 1993 (I missed that night, watched 1994 and started taping in 1995) I didn't think that I would ever get to see all the Countdown goodness in the ABC archives.

Repeated episodes, other shows (particularly sport) encroaching, a change in programming from Countdown episodes to general Retro material, artist specials (remember Madonna killed a night once), tributes to the recently departed and Big Day Out Specials wasted an entire night for several years until repeated complaints removed it to Feb.

With all these various obstacles the odds were against whether I would ever be able to see every surviving Countdown during my lifetime.

There are 404 surviving episodes and after a little over 20 years I now have 315 of those episodes with just 89 to go. I am starting to get a little more optimistic, another 12 new ones added this year (I had 5 on timecode) as the total needed goes from 101 to 89. The great thing is that none of the Countdowns shown had ever aired on Rage before.

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

I wonder if we'll ever get to see the 1978 episode. What sort of condition is it in?

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Guru,

It's helpful to see that list. Fantastic!

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Thanks for the list Guru.

I sense a 1986 onslaught coming

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Remember Nathan,

Guru listed the episodes he needs. rage haven't played many of the timer codes we have either. So there is still many 1980 and 1983 episodes left for rage to play as well

I was wondering if that might be the case - thanks Jason

Looking at the '85 and '86 episodes I can see a possible marathon of Bwian Mannix hosted episodes

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Quite a list there Guru! But yes, it's great Rage have been playing unaired Countdowns for the last several years, much appreciated.

I noted the September 1984 Jackson Five Victory competition episode wasn't on the missing list. I know only until a few years ago it was missing in the ABC archives although I understand they got a copy of it from a VHS source.......would be great if they aired that one.

Nice knowing I may not have to reach 100 to see every Countdown the ABC has - hopefully!

They aired clips sourced from youtube (and rather low quality ones - or so it looked anyway, when broadcast) for the snippets of Thriller dance contest footage shown during the Michael Jackson tribute episode in 2009.

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

By my counting (could be out by a few) Rage have aired 260 episodes since 1993. Going through and cataloging them all it's amazing how many repeats there were - sometimes only a year apart.

Hey Gary - any chance of posting your list here - the episodes played and the date rage showed them? It would be good to have as a reference so that we don't inadvertently request Countdowns which have been previously aired.

Have any Countdowns been shown 3 or more times?

Click on Rage Reruns at the top of the home page - and for 2013-2016 go to Rage. There is one error on the Rage site - they list the same shows for two consecutive week one retro nights. I think 2014 & 2015. The missing data can be found here under retro week 1 for 2013.

I didn't keep count but I think the first colour show has been repeated a few times.

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

and the Iggy Pop episode and the Countdown 10th Anniversary and Countdown Ends The Decade - The 70's.

Clip Magnet, I can email you my rage Countdown list that I very nicely put together for my reference.

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Clip Magnet

Hey Gary - any chance of posting your list here - the episodes played and the date rage showed them? It would be good to have as a reference so that we don't inadvertently request Countdowns which have been previously aired.

Have any Countdowns been shown 3 or more times?

Clip Magnet (and anyone else interested) I have added the list you were asking about.

The most repeated episodes are:

4x
Aug 31 1975 (Sherbet) + July 8 1979 (Iggy Pop)

3x
Dec 12 1976 (Daryl Braithwaite), Dec 16 1979 (End Of Decade) + Oct 28 1984 (10th Aniversary)

2x
quite a lot, mostly 70's episodes.

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Thanks Guru - there were a few I wasn't too sure about. There's at least one that I missed - the Feb 7 '82 summer special.

Re: Thanks Rage - 17 unaired Countdowns this year

Thanks Guru for the updated list.
