I'm just taking this opportunity to let everyone know here that I'm proposing a New CD Compilation to be made. First some inportant pointers to note why i'm doing this. 1. It seems that the record labels will not re-issue any of these tracks either in a lossless digital form, nor on CD.
2. In the case of some of the tracks being available above on CD, they have appeared on the "Australian Pop of the 80's" CD's. In such cases there has been so much noise reduction applied to them, they sound like the songs are coming from the bottom of my bath.

Technically speaking, when I had the documentary of "RainMan goes to RockWiz" made about me and my Asperger's, I managed to get some good repore with Glenn A Baker, so I have him as a contact.

Secondly, I have a friend in the US who does an absolutely sterling job of restoring vinyl. Noting how perdantic I am with my quality, this guy knows what he is doing. Check out his blog here and listen to his downloads, and you'll hear how clean his restorations are.

SOME SIDE NOTES.

Solid Citizens has already been released to CD, on Australian Pop of the 80's Volume 4, "Run to Paradise". It appears on Disc 1 of the set. When listening to the track, it definitely has been taken from a master tape, but whoever they have hired as their restorer has destroyed the song completely.

Cheetah's "Standing in the Rain" does appear on Australian Pop of the 70s Volume 2, "Get that Jive", but it has been mastered from a 96k MP3. I'm going to the record fair in Sydney this week, and see if I can pick this song up on a mint vinyl 45.

I'm taking this list to the record fiar this week, and checking how many of these tracks I can get in mint condition 45's. Once I know the resourcefulness of these tracks, I may politely ask anyone on here to see if they can keep a look out for any mint 45s. I'll gladly pay paypal to reinburse anyone for their troubles.

Hi Jason, That is awesomely fantastic if you could assist. However, I'm pretty sure if it is the greatest hits I'm thinking of, it has the awful 1988 mouth to mouth remix, which I have on the US edition of that CD. It wasn't so bad at first when I heard it, but every time it comes on to my station, the remixing just irritates the hell out of me, but thanks all the same. As a matter of fact for point of reference, here's the original single mix from a december 1986 countdown. As I'm aware, this version never made it to CD. The first sign of the remix, is an extra rock rift dubbed on top of the intro.

In relation to the Machinations "Cars and Planes", the album version is very lack luster to the single mix. Though if you say you have the original 1988 release, that might have the single version on it, as my copy of the album was a mushroom midprice master which had the crap version, I ended up porning the album at cash converters about three weeks after I bought it, this was long before eBay.

Play the album version, then listen to the copy you got of MTV. If there is a difference, then that's the difference between the album and single version.

With I'm talking though, I would love to get a rip of that track. Funny, I have a Japan edition of "Bare Witness" that I bought in 1993, and that song is not on there. Very interesting. :( and Beargarden would be awesome. I hope that's a lossless copy.

The Australian edition of the 'I'm Talking' CD had extra tracks to fill it out.I should have bought it when it was available.

The Orphans song, I only have on a worn 2nd hand single. It's a difficult song to locate.

I bought I'm Talking's 'Bear Witness' when Mushroom re-released a lot of the artist albums in late 1997. It's the one that Jason has. This was the same time when I also got Christie's 'Magic Rhythm' and Tim's 'Escapade'. Wish I picked up more then, but my knowledge on Oz Artists of the 70's and early 80's was limited back then. It grew over the years with Countdown repeats! Funnily enough, I had 'Bear Witness' cranking in the car, with the windows down driving to Cowra only a couple of weeks ago.

Hey Jason, just wondering if you know of anyone who has contact with Mental as Anything? I just happened to have stumbled across this video on the Australian MTV site, and it looks like the Mentals have done a remastering of "Let's go to Paradise".

Hi Lee, I had a listen to the 30th anniversary edition on iTunes's website (i don't have that bloatware on my system), and according to the 10 second grab, it sounds like the doped up 1988 remix. If you want to please send me a rip, so I can properly confirm, that would be greatly appreciated. Pay close attention to the intro though, it has a heap of other stupid chords dubbed over the top. If it does, then it is the 1988 version.

Just checked the "Essential as Anything" 30th anniversary edition, and unfotunately it has the 1988 remix.

Daryl Cotton's cver of Hall and Oates' I Don't Wanna Lose You was featured on Daryl Cotton's So Far So Good greatest hits CD that I have when he had his own greatest hits CD featuring the tracks by Zoot, Frieze Cotton, Lloyd and Christian, himself and Cotton, Keays and Morris and Glenn Shorrock's We're Coming To Get You was featured on Glenn Shorrock:The First 20 Years album.

I bought the CD on ebay from an US seller, and the US version of Mouth to Mouth has the bonus track "Love me tender"

I remember seeing the original Australian version at K-Mart's Katoomba store back in late 1987, when my parents had a cottage in the blue mountains. I can confirm that both the original vinyl record and CD also had the 1988 remix of "Let's go to paradise". I remember playing the record often in my community radio days of the mid nineties. As noted before, I'm absolutely rock solid certain that the original 1986 single version of this track has never made it to CD.

Just an update on the situation, It seems four out of the 20 songs have been spoken for, Beargarden, I'm Talking, Daryl Cotton, and possibly the Glenn Shorrick one.

I've purchased the Beargarden one, and am waiting on the other three. Just confirming if they are any issues with uploading the songs, I have no problem reimbursing those who wish to send me a copy in the snail mail.

I've sent three mails to the guy at burning the ground, but am getting somewhat concerned about him not replying. Pretty much the entire project hinges on him, as he seems to have the magic on removing noise off records, without destroying the songs.

I'm not really in a rush to get this done, I just want it done properly hense why I have no deadline on this project. I guess at the moment it is a work in progress. I would have to say though if there is no reply from this Paul T by the end of next week, then unfortunately it looks like this project is in serious jeopardy. Unfortunately being unemployed, I don't have the money to negotiate through these things, so the best I could offer him was him being credited on the cover.

I'll cross my fingers and see how we go.

Hi Michael, Just got your message, thanks, I've just sent you an e-mail.

For everyone else, the project is still on and going, it is just going to take longer then I anticipated. This guy from Burning the ground has not got back to me. In this case, I'll be doing the restoration of the vinyls. I'm trying to source all the non CD stuff from 45s, as I think they have a higher dynamic output then 33s, thus making them easier to restore. I'll also have to run the track listing by Glenn A Baker, to get his feedback on what tracks can be licensed, I don't even know If I'll be able to use them all. I do have some other tracks on a backup list if licensing becomes an issue.

I have the I'm Talking 'Bear Witness' cd but Mark, you asked for a Wave and I have NO idea how to do it!

I guess she had too much solo work to showcase and, after all, you can only fit a number of songs on a CD. I would have liked to have seen more I'm Talking songs on this CD too. I got hold of her 'Best Of' on VHS a few years after this album was released.

Just a bit of a side note, I found another forum similar to this, that deals with lost and rare Australian music. (I won't memtion the forum name), but I gotta say everyone on this countdown forum is much more respectible and very helpful. I shared a few lost Australian songs on the other forum, and pretty much had the head admin down my throat. Apparently he was annoyed as hell that I used putlocker over mediafire, and basically goes out of the way to be an absolute a$$.

I used a different moniker, as I was a little unsure of the forum culture. Thankfully I did, it's not a friendly place. If they don't appreciate peoples contributions, then they're not doing themselves any favours. They have run their course with me, and for anyone curious the name of the place starts with an M and ends with a H.

I just came across this thread and your recommendation of the BurningTheGround website. I checked out the website and there appears to be a lot of really good stuff for download.
I noticed that the downloaded files need to be unpacked using Winrar (For Windows) and that there is a link to download this software. Do you know if it is safe to download this software? Do you use this and is it reputable?
I'm really keen to get some things from the BurningTheGround website, but just wanted to know your thoughts before I venture forth.
