In my database of Rock Arena shows I've got an entry in there from December 27 1983 - the date of the Rock 'n' Roll Ladies episode Rage are playing tomorrow night. Is this Rock Arena also a repeat?
**EDIT**: It is too. Last played January 2nd 2010.
Do Rage now consider anything that hasn't been aired in the last month as retro?
I'm excited about the Korgis, PhD, Sandii & the Sunsetz, and Cameo 'Candy' clips. The non-repeated Countdowns will probably good; the 1984 ABC segment might be too... But oh my stars, this has to be the most ridiculous retro month ever so far!
ISGUSTING that rage are playing the same episode of COUNTDOWN from August 16th, 1981 from just last year!
It is completely LAZY, EMBARRASSING and totally un professional to say the least!
The rest of the night is brilliant and though I LOVE the MEGA RARE underground 80s video's which are RIGHT UP MY ALLEY from Sandii & The Sunsetz, SPK, Comsat Angels and PHD I don't get 2 hrs of no stop video clips?
So, retro 3 and so far 2 COuntdown's and 1 repeated one from last year?
I swear, any fool at rage can get a job, I am
F U C K I N G convinced!
@ Frankster30, the Rock & Roll Ladies this Saturday night is different from the one from 27/12/83. This one is from August 83 and features a lot of Sharon O'Neill! This episode is listed in Guru's Rock Arena runsheets post.
Good god....this had been a bad year for me personally. Even the Countdown episodes are a little too far back for me to REALLY care for anyone that would be on them!

For me personally, I LOVE 1981 COuntdown's and much prefer them to 1986 and 1987!
That repeated 16/8/81 Ignatius Jones episode is simply not good enough.
Even the most basic checking of what was shown in last year’s Rage Retro season could have been done and Rage have NO excuse as to why they show repeating this.
After waiting all year for Countdowns to be treated like that is shocking. Yes it’s great seeing 2 unaired Countdowns but why waste a precious hour on a 3rd one that was shown less than 12 months ago?????
Also, I haven't seen anyone request one of the retro music videos they are repeating this weekend. Yet I and others have made many suggestions on the forum, but these are ignored (or they've all 'fallen down the back of the couch') in favour of clips that aired as recently as last December.
This is a request I made 2 years back for the other "Rock Arena - Ladies Of Rock 11" show with Divinyls & Sharon O'Neill. Good that "Rage" listened and thanks to anyone who supported it at the time. The other "Rock Arena - Ladies Of Rock" show was indeed played 2010 with Wendy & The Rockettes and Pat Benatar to name a couple. Very excited to see this after so very long.
Like others I too don't get the same "Countdown" repeated again. GRRRRRRRRRR
Looking forward to the other 2 shows and most of what is coming looks pretty **** good. Would like to see the 1981 June "Countdown" with guest host James Reyne and studio performance of Debbie Byrne "Tears" in it's place. Quick let's all go onto "Rage" website and request a "Countdown" we have yet to be seen again.
Me too Jason. I much prefer the early 80s "Countdown" more as bands and artists were really out there and risk takers. The music was generally good amongst pop and new-wave etc. I would like to see the July 1987 Countdown with guest co-host Jenny Morris close to when it ended of course again as I had taped in on BETA and sadly the tape chewed.

I don't know Patrick, I am seriously OUT OF WORDS!
I know rage repeat Countdown's that have already been played sometimes BUT an episode played just last year? THAT IS BLASPHEMY!!!

Seriously, you couldn't make this $hit up.
I HAVE to say. I LOVE the retro video's they are playing on Saturday night. They did good with that EVEN though I think 2 hrs worth is TO much when they could have put another Countdown in. OR a Flashez, I don't get it!!! :-(
But many GEMS video's in there :-) Sandii & The Sunsetz = YES PLEASE :-)

Oh well I live in hope.
ABSOLUTELY. This is why I have ALWAYS loved the Early 80s. They were experimental, creative and all round like nothing ELSE!... Later 80s though has it's good stuff here and there just doesn't have the New Wave slant left. it got to safe and less productive!
Hopefully the Sandii & The Sunsetz 'Sticky Music' clip will be the full video, rather than a Countdown performance or clip lifted directly from Countdown.
It had better be the full Sandii clips!!!!.. And WHY do rage put down Sandii & The Sunsetz on 'Alive' yet put Sandii & The Sunsetz on 'Sticky Music'.
Seeing rage are in SUCH a Sandii mood they could have played the Sandii interview with Suzanne Dowling on Rock Arena! :-(
WHAT THE F U C K ?
I will NEVER get over rage replaying August 16th, 1981 Countdown when it was played 12 months ago. It is THE most LAZY move rage have EVER made. To them working at rage is obviously just a 'JOB'. They really don't care about expertise in their field at all!... WHAT A WASTE :-(
I'm rather happy with the line up this week, yes including the repeats.
I just checked my copy of 16th August 1981 Countdown that i taped in January 2010, and looks like I'll be taping it again. My copy has a rather big glitch in it, at around 15:25 to 15:35, somewhere around there. In the video of "Stop dragging my heart around", there is about a 1/3 black out. Just wondering if anyone else can confirm this. Was that the Rage DigiMax transfer, or was that my Digital reception?
Generally this whole digital television thing is beautiful when your reception is perfect, but living on Sydney's outscurts, it's a real bother. Hence why if they repeat something, for me it's a second chance to get something that my reception screwed up last time.
I had a glitch on Stop Dragging My heart Around as well on the same episode last year!
Besides the repeat I AM happy with the rest of the night, the rest is rather BRILLIANT!
And I agree, digital tv is amazing when there is no pixelation interference BUT when there is it's HELL :-(
I usually have trouble every year on Countdown episodes at least once with a bad pixelation glitch :-( Which is why I also record them on the Foxtel IQ!!!
I am dying for MUSIC AROUND US - The Three R's DOCUMENTARY ON RRR, 1980!!!
Loved that MUSIC AROUND US - New Wave one a few years ago on rage.
I grew up BIG TIME with 3RRR in Melbourne. I listened to it SOLID for many years in the 80s, so that little doco will be HEAVEN for me! :-)

Jase, if you're happy I'M happy!!! God knows you deserve some light this January! I'm personally just hanging for the last couple of Countdown Madonna things they've not re run, although there is ALOT I would thoroughly enjoy also throughout!
Personally I love the 81 - 83 Countdowns the best - something about those years just clicked in terms of fashion and music coming together. 1984 was pretty good although I think things lost their way a little from 85 onwards - although of course there were some great things during those years as well.
But yes the 81-83 Countdowns are usually the ones I enjoy watching the most.
I do love the 1984's as well. Though a bit more commercial they had some AMAZING shows in 1984 like Culture Club, Sandii & The Sunsetz, Pseudo Echo, Bananarama all live in the COUNTDOWN studio e.t.c...

My copy of this clip is fine - no glitches. Recorded in Sydney.
had NO pixelation till Mi Sex 'Falling In And Out' :-(
NOT HAPPY, bloody digital tv. The 1980 had NO pixelation, my friend is also backing up on his dvd recorder and I am recording on the IQ as well, so should be ALL good!
No pixelation here and I am recording off Channel 2.
It is definitely the Aug 16 repeat. Was hoping they may have done a last minute change but due to the licensing of all the copyrights in each show it was probably too much.
Loved the Ya Ya Choral clip - To The Edge. Never seen it before. Looked similar to another Sydney mid 80's band Electric Pandas. Also some rare SPK and Tactics clips. I have a copy of Outline Cicada clip taken from Rage in the late 80's, probably the first time it has been played since.
Glad they didn't edit Paul McCartney out of the 1980 episode. Hope they are the full episodes.
Great night so far until the repeat. A good episode but I only saw it 12 months ago.
Jason, do you record Countdown off ABC1 on Foxtel? I do and it's very very rare you get pixelation off Foxtel.
I record on 2 on the dvd recorder AND ABC1 on Foxtel. SO it's cool, I have the back up copy on my Foxtel IQ :-)
I always get fricking pixelation on the Panasonic dvd recorder, though it behaved itself for most of the night tonight. I had 3 pixelation problems on the Sheena Easton COUNTDOWN, argh!!!
Will transfer the IQ Foxtel copy of that Countdown tomorrow onto the dvd recorder and remove the pixelated one :-)
I have it all cables up for me from my friend and don't know how he did it.
As I said, I am happy to make you a copy of last night...
I LOVED the 1980 Dugites episode, it KILLED me. I thought I was going to love the Shenna one the most but I DIED for the 1980. Molly in the kimono trying to use chop sticks, CLASSIC!!!
But, OMG.... Molly reviewing Japan 'Gentleman Take Polaroids' on 1981 was TO MUCH!
I only sat up until 2:30am (when the repeated Countdown began) and am yet to watch the rest, but I didn't have any pixellation so far (I'm still using a set top box with my 2005 Pioneer HDD/DVD Recorder).
Thankfully I don't seem to get pixellation much; although last year's episode with the Time Bandits was pixellation hell, with the signal dropping out for most of the program!
Yes, the 1981 Countdown last night was pixelation HELL from HELL...
Digital is a pain in the A S S :-(
My friend is going to bring over his copy and I will
check it out from his dvd recorder and if his is also pixelated THEN the Foxtel IQ copy WILL be THE final burnt copy :-)
I already deleted my pxelated copy as I couldn't BEAR it!!!
I must admit, although the 1981 episode was good, I thought it would have been great. It would have been better had Molly co-hosted it with Sheena. Those eps are always best when Molly and co-host chat throughout the show. I love the studio audience on the early 80's episodes - they really get into the studio performances.
The 1980 episode - did anyone get that pause for about 5 seconds when Cherry Ripe was interviewing Joe Camilleri and Wilbur Wilde (Jo Jo Zep) in London? I freaked out there for a second thinking it was about to go into meltdown.
Also, do we have an actual date for Rock 'n Roll Ladies? rage only broadcast it as August '83.
I LOVED the 1980 episode and though the Sheena Easton episode was good something was lacking... The 1980 was my ultimate FAV of the night, I really loved it!
And yes, the early 80s audiences are so happy and wild. Just AMAZING!!!
Jason, yeah I think the '81 episode was a bit disjointed. When a video finished and it cut back to Sheena it was dead silent and no studio audience cheering or making noise and when they went to the studio acts, the camera didn't swing to the band, rather it cut straight to it. Very much felt like a cut and paste episode, not like it was all happening together in the studio. I think the Status Quo video looked really bad for the new romantic period of '81 and Phil Collins was a boring ol' fart with no humour. The last 5 minutes made up for it though. Shame they didn't play the full Christie Allen performance.
I guess it was a different age group. The early 80's episodes was really 12-14 year olds acting silly and going off. Whereas in '87 the audience were a few years(+) older.

That's true the audiences later on were older and just tended to dance around in a kind of daggy fashion rather then go berserk. I love looking at the clothes in those 1987 shows though as it reminds me of the sort of stuff I used to wear. Good times!
