PS, I found it here:

It's not on the main web page yet.

A few comments:

> MARVIN GAYE Can I Get A Witness (EMI)
> MARVIN GAYE Sexual Healing (Sony)

Two regularly-aired-on-Rage clips. What's the point?

> NOOSHA FOX The Heat Is On (Chrysalis)

Interesting to see another clip of hers.

> DONNA SUMMER This Time I Know It's For Real (Warner)
> SYLVESTER Mighty Real (Festival)
> THE POINTER SISTERS I'm So Excited (BMG)

All have aired on recent Mardi Gras specials. Is this their attempt to appease us 80s lovers? Pur-lease! Another waste of space.

Re: retro 2 playlist

I must say it does seem very strange why Rage would show 70s/80s video clips after an all night 60s session - why not just put up 60's music videos? Quite odd.

Here's to next week which one surely imagines plenty of Countdowns will be shown - hopefully!

Re: retro 2 playlist

Thread now-renamed to be aligned with Patrick's.

It is really retro '1', despite their 'retro' NYE special.

> KRAFTWERK Pocket Calculator (EMI)

ALL of the above have aired on Rage over the last few years. Some of the others may have, too, but I don't remember them.

Really, what a WASTED opportunity to unearth some never-seen-before-on-Rage videos!

The Frankie Valli clip aired on a Saturday 10-11 slot in January 2010, to add insult to injury.

'Be My Baby', 'Rock With You', and 'Highway to Hell' seem to be on Rage every other month nearly. Majorly disappointed with this playlist.

Re: retro 2 playlist

Oh, there's some 'bonus' retro clips in the 8-10am slot:

> KILLING HEIDI Weir (Roadshow)

Sooo retro at 12.5 years old!

> DAVID BOWIE Space Oddity (EMI)
> DAVID BOWIE Boys Keep Swinging (EMI)
> DAVID BOWIE Let's Dance (Warner)

I know this is for his 65th b'day, but commonly seen on Rage clips again.

ROXETTE Dressed For Success (EMI)
JIMMY BARNES No Second Prize (Mushroom)
THE EASYBEATS She's So Fine (EMI)

Re: retro 2 playlist

I just posted this on the rage message board. I hope they listen:

This week's retro clips are rather a let down IMO, with most of them having aired on Rage over the last few years.

- last aired 19/7/2008.

Out of 21 retro clips, 15 of them have aired on Rage in the last 3 years.

Then on Saturday night/Sunday morning's episode, the playlist ends with 3 clips that have been aired on Mardi Gras specials over the last 2 years.

Is it necessary to constantly repeat the same clips during retro month when there is (presumably) a trove of retro music videos that have not aired on age in aeons/ever? I understand there were several huge library culls in the 90's, but a little more variety in retro selections for Saturday morning would be much appreciated, considering that many of these clips air during the year in specials or in the selections made by guest programmers.

Re: retro 2 playlist

When I get home from work at 12.30am this Saturday, I am going to turn the TV on to rage and SMASH THE HELL OUT OF IT! I'll make sure it's the old telly.

Your old black & white telly, perhaps? Though it won't be noticeable with all those old GTK episodes.

Re: retro 2 playlist

Retro weekend this weekend is pack jammed with 60s and 70s. Hmm, I will record it and flick through but not to interested except in:

THIS DAY TONIGHT: DANCING August 19th, 1977 (ABC)
and NOOSHA FOX The Heat Is On which is HEAVEN. What a
f u c k i n g waste!

Re: retro 2 playlist

I always appreciate seeing plenty of 80's and in particular Countdown but at the same time I am happy for all eras to be shown.

When we only get about 25-30 hours a year out of the ABC music show archives that have well over 1000 hours in them I would just like to see unique material, whatever the era.

Common clips and repeating material are my only gripes as it reduces that 25 hour window of opportunity. It seems that every year they are determined to go down this road for some reason.

I suppose as we got common clips this week we will get repeated Countdowns next week. They could have shown 2 more Hitscene's instead of the clips that Nathan mentioned and the genuinely rare clips could be shown on the Saturday morning.

Re: retro 2 playlist

Sorry Guru but I just don't share your enthusiasm. As I said, I think it's great they are showing archival footage from the 60s and 70s BUT I would have loved at least ONE Countdown in there, at least!!!

Re: retro 2 playlist

Not too fussed on most of the clips. I LOVE 60s music and if they are going to do the 60s do it right. Would love to have seen some classic 60s sunshine/bubblegum pop like "Good Morning Starshine","The Rain The Park & Other Things", or "Aquarius" + others of that ilk. Instead we get drab stuff like The Easybeats.
The TDT specials do look very interesting however especially the 1977 one.
Also this..NEWS EXCERPT - October 1st, 1978 Babe's Disco ..looks very promising.
Overall not too bad ..could have done with some Flashez though, but hopefully we'll get some next week.

Re: retro 2 playlist

One assumes next week will be mostly 70's with the remaining unaired Flashez eps to be shown. They can't show any 70's Countdowns as they have all been aired apart from the 1978 Adelaide Festival ep which is damaged.

So if Rage are showing bits of their classic shows maybe when the focus goes to the 80's in Week 3 some bits of Beat Box, The Factor will be shown? And surely if Rage are playing 8 Hitscenes this week then it's not unreasonable to assume they'll play some Countdown Revolution for Week 4 when it slides into the late 80s/90's era?

Will be interesting to see what happens......

Re: retro 2 playlist

While I'd love to see that happen (IF they are sticking to a decade per week), I seriously doubt Countdown Revolution would take precedence over their beloved Recovery/10:30 Slot/grunge/JJJ $hit

It will be a complete insult though if there's no Countdown again next week.

Re: retro 2 playlist

I'm quite certain Countdown will be shown next week but hopefully not a 70's one as they have all been shown.

Flashez would be great to see and maybe hope some Countdown Revolution is played if Rage are taking this course - much better than Recovery/10.30 Slot for sure!

Wouldn't mind a bit of Beat Box or The Factory either.

Will be a good way of disposing of the old obsolete T.V instead of leaving it out on the front lawn in the hard rubbish. 6 hours of all black & white transmission will have some people thinking there is such thing as a time machine after all. Some regular year-round viewers of Rage will be scratching their heads at what is going to be put in front of them tonight.

Re: retro 2 playlist

On Twitter rage say there will be Countdown next week. Better NOT be 70s repeats or I will literally DIE!

Re: retro 2 playlist

Countdown or Countdowns?

Re: retro 2 playlist

Jason 'The Moderator'
On Twitter rage say there will be Countdown next week. Better NOT be 70s repeats or I will literally DIE!

I hope it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did.

Then for week 4, prepare for a 'retro' grunge 90's/00's onslaught, featuring:

Saturday morning clips:

NIRVANA Smells Like Teen Spirit
PEARL JAM Alive
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Under the Bridge
HOLE Miss World
FOO FIGHTERS This Is a Call
SILVERCHAIR Tomorrow
GREEN JELLY Three Little Pigs (since someone asked for it on the message board)
METALLICA Enter Sandman
GREEN DAY Longview

Saturday night:

BIG DAY OUT live 1992 "highlights", marking the 20th anniversary of the Big Day Out, including footage of Nirvana live in concert.

RECOVERY - "highlights" including studio performances from Silverchair, Grinspoon, Jebediah, Regurgitator (from their first album, of course), The Whitlams, Custard, and whatever 'unearthed' act that Triple J touted that nobody cares to remember.

10:30 SLOT - 2 full length episodes that nobody asked for

with a smattering of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Metallica videos in between.

Plus some bonus archival footage of Nikki Webster and Yothu Yindi at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Re: retro 2 playlist

Among the Countdown requests I put in the Rage forum I did suggest they air the 1989 and 1990 Countdown Revolution Christmas specials, which I think were 1 hr each - so I'm hopeful they'll play at least one of them in Week 4. Would make that week a little more bearable amongst the expected Recovery onslaught!

Re: retro 2 playlist

If they are going to have a 70's night next week and the only Countdowns to air are repeats I am going to stop being so diplomatic.

I have always accepted that items from all eras should be played but due to a lack of footage this can't be done with a simplistic 60's/70's/80's/90's theme. I debated this point rather vigorously with Retro Man and Jimmy last year but some people just don't get it. You will end up with common clips and repeated episodes, we have already gotten the former.

For the 60's you really only have Hitscene and GTK from 1969, and apparently some Be Our Guest shows from the late 60's that I was unaware of. Rage can't play what doesn't exist. So rather than have a 60's night you end up having a night focusing on predominantly one year - 1969. What have we got this week? - 8 Hitscene episodes all from 1969.

I will find this week interesting as there is a lot of footage that I have never seen before but if next week is to be a 70's night then again you only have predominantly Hitscene 1970-72, GTK, Flashez segments and repeated Countdowns to choose from.

I had tried being diplomatic with the likes of Retro Man by supporting a modified eras package:
1955-74 for all the B&W footage
1975-84 non repeated Countdowns which effectively makes it 1980-84 Countdown/Rock Arena
1985-92 more Countdown and other shows from the era
1993-2001 to satisfy rage's desire to show material that is not retro.

If next week is a straight out 70's night with repeated Countdowns the time for diplomacy is over.

This week I will actually find the Hitscenes interesting to watch as a lot of the items I have never even heard of as it is from well before my time - although I was born in 1969. I wanted to see about 8 Hitscenes air this year, but spread across the 1969-72 spectrum. I won't begrudge more Hitscene next week as historically it has been overlooked so it will get them back on to a more even footing.

However, if we get repeated 70's Countdowns next week then this experiment of decades is clearly not working.

Why should I make efforts to promote all these other eras and appease the uneducated - in relation to what is possible in ways of programming - when my personal interest only lies in seeing the 200 unaired 1980-87 Countdowns? If we get repeated 70's Countdowns next week then next year I will only be promoting those 200 Countdowns.

Re: retro 2 playlist

I'd be perfectly content with an entire night of Flashez clips.
*stops dreaming*
Seriously though there are probably lots of bits and pieces from the 70's still unaired. For one there are those music award shows from 75/76 that someone here mentioned recently.
Also the second TDT is from 1977,so logically they should have left that aside for next week.

Re: retro 2 playlist

I'd be entirely happy with a night of Flashez clips as well.

It's just that next week they will show Countdown and if they are only playing 70's then that will a complete waste of valuable retro time. Next week's Countdown's need to be unrepeated 80's.

Re: retro 2 playlist

If next week is a largely 70's themed show, and they don't repeat Countdowns... we may get more 1980 Countdowns

Re: retro 2 playlist

Well tonight is supposed to be a sixties night but there are 70's clips in there. So it wouldn't surprise me to see a regular retro night next week ie mixture of 70's/80's.
And btw Nathan that hypothetical 90's night you posted is going to give me nightmares!! Oh the humanity!
I love 90's brit pop ie Oasis,Blur,Radiohead..but loathe the JJJ stuff like *shudders* Nick Cave.

Somehow I forgot to add Nick Cave to the list. He could also appear (again) on the 80's episode too!

Re: retro 2 playlist

That would be awesome if they did, would love to see C/Rev. Christmas special from 1990 again, I still remember watching it back then, Skyhooks performed "Tall Timber" live!

Re: retro 2 playlist

Although the 60's jam-packed episode of Rage tonight isn't my retro preference, the 'TDT' segment that just aired was quite an interesting reflection of the times. 20 cent lunches, paying $50,000 for a nightclub building, and stating that no-one knows for sure whether cigarettes cause cancer

Re: retro 2 playlist

How glorious was the opening to Hitscene!

Loved The Gatherings "Lovely Loretta"

Re: retro 2 playlist

I have tried to watch as much as possible and then I put on my Yazoo DVD and now have got back to ABC and I can't deal with what I am seeing.

rage preach every year that they want variety YET tonight is 6 hrs straight on black and white footage!

Some of the footage I have seen has been interesting BUT the doco's are NOT music as such!!!

Re: retro 2 playlist

From what I remember there were only 5-6 complete Flashez shows in total recovered, and around 3 or so have already been shown - so they would have to just show all those miscellaneous segment tapes.
