Replating Services

Where would be a good place to have headlight reflectors replated?

Re: Replating Services

Check into the UVIRA process of replating. They use evaporated Aluminum, then coat with a glass layer (used on medical devices). Should hold up better than resilvering and stay brighter, longer.

Re: Replating Services

Hi Don.
Get in touch with UVIRA . I had the Frontenac done almost 30 years ago and they are still excellent. UVIRA has changed a little since then. Now you have to have your shells cleaned and plated. Then they replate and seal them with glass, giving you a total end process as a sealed beam from the 50's

I would not do any other system now.

Re: Replating Services

I did a Google search of UVIRA and found it to be a town in the Democratic Republic of Congo! Need more details, location to plate, est pricing.

Re: Replating Services

Maybe there is a misperception about my state (Oregon), but that is where UVIRA plating is located! A town in southern Oregon named after a wizard (Merlin). Just scroll down past the city in the Congo. Ross

Re: Replating Services

Don,

I've used two outfits for headlamp reflectors

First is Chidgey & Son.
I spoke with the founder a few years ago and he gave me a great price.
He and his son are Silver platers and the old man told me a story about
when he was young, his first car was a worn out 1930 Durant sedan with no brakes.
He couldn't make the car stop so his buddies jumped out while it was running.
Nice guy, but my not still be around. The shop is still in business.

The next two are for the Uvira process I used from Gordon's recommendation.

The gentleman that does this no longer performs the first step plating, so I send my reflectors to American Plating. Run by a man that is fairly priced and does good work. I've done business with him before and was very pleased. Then step two is to send the newly plated reflectors to Uvira, Inc in Oregon. I don't remember the owner's name. He then adds the Aluminum, and glass.

Re: Replating Services

Since I am working with Model T reflectors, they are almost an exact match for Star C, I found them new with the aluminum finish, at Lang's for only $39.00 each! The '26 Coupster I bought a few years ago, has Model T head lights installed.
