Henry Leland took over Henry Ford's first company and turned it in to Cadillac which was then acquired by W. C. Durant. Leland left General Motors in a dispute with Durant over producing materiel during World War I. Cadillac had been asked to build Liberty aircraft engines but Durant was a pacifist.
