Re: What Projects are you working on?

I'm rebuilding two 6-14 front axles from the late Mike Larson stash that I got at his estate sale(I think there was a half a dozen more under the bushes). No real reason to do this except for something to do. May have some extra kingpins made if my machinist friend also has some spare time. I don't know who might have picked up what was left of Mike's stuff, but there was more there, including a 6-14 bare frame(although not a likely part for someone needing a "spare").

Re: What Projects are you working on?

Well I ordered the tires for my Model 65, finishing the brakes up, finishing steering column and steering wheel to get it to a rolling chassis so I can take the car to the restoration shop for body and paint work as well as other things. Hope to get it there by mid-October since that is when the tires will be in and the shop can take the car.

Re: What Projects are you working on?

I had previously rewired my 1930 614, including the addition of turn signals and a second tail/brake light, but I put off rewiring the dash lights. I doubt I will ever drive it at night, so dash lights seem to be a luxury I will never use. However, with the extreme heat wave of the past few weeks, I spent more time in doors and decided to complete that little 2 bulb wiring harness. All of the wiring is now new and complete.

While at it, I also fixed the horn button so that the horn works again.

Re: What Projects are you working on?

Rick, This may not be a Durant product, but I'm sure not everyone is tied down to just one type of collector car. I'm restoring a L-29 Cord brougham. I am currently taking a break from the Cord to finish my 1926 Star model M sedan. The Cord is an interesting project in that almost nothing is available for these cars. People either want a small fortune for parts ($900.00 for a cigarette lighter!) or they aren't willing to sell any parts. I have become quite proficient at manufacturing my own parts. I cast new door handles and window cranks from silicon bronze and nikel plate them myself. I also have fabricated a new gas tank cover made with 36 separate parts welded together. I have rebuilt all the individual pieces of the CV joints from the front drive from beat up junk. I'm done with starter, generator, water pump, wheel brake cylinders, brake shoes, carburetor, oil pump, gas tank, window risers, muffler, etc. etc. As I mentioned this can be very labor intensive, and very expensive, which is why I'm currently taking a break to finish my Star. As soon as I'm finished with the Star I'll be back for the final push on the Cord.
