Re: woodwork in body for rebuild

looks like I am on my own with this. First thing I guess is to level up the frame and block it up . Then find exact center line and start the wood work.
I believe I have a good base for my start anyway. I will keep you all informed of progress as I go

Re: woodwork in body for rebuild

All I can say is "Good Luck, Ken, and stick with it!" I've started two cars with no wood remnants and it's not an easy thing to undertake. My main rule is NEVER cut or modify the steel to make it fit. Also, never refuse to remake a piece. I generated almost a pickup load of scrap pieces and cutoffs to get where I'm at now! Anyone that can tolerate that Moose Juice of yours can accomplish anything!

Ken:

There is a great pamphlet that I purchased when I did the body for my Durant called: Tips on Autobody Woodwork Manual by Don Marsh to Restore Wood Bodied Cars. You see it come up often on ebay and it costs around $24.00 I would recommend it as there are many tips on how to proceed.

Re: woodwork in body for rebuild

Ken- I might have a door post for a copy. Don't know if would be worth sending to you, also maybe a couple of pictures. I have a picture of my car with all the rear bodywork wood done, and with no sheet metal tacked on(it's a coupe like yours). Let me see if I can get something organized first. What kind of wood are you going to use? Ross

I tried to answer you earlier but seems my puter didnt cooperate. I Dont think I need the door post . I have rebuilt 2 and they seem pretty good. Just need a little touching up and they will be good. Thanks anyway.
I am using oak for most of the body wood and some parts I have done with B C Fir. Its pretty hard wood and holds up well.

Re: woodwork in body for rebuild

I can try to find some pictures of my car while it was under construction but many burned up in Louis Quenneville's house fire. Of course you could just drive down past Whitby again and have a go at taking mine apart. At least enough to see and measure

I think I will pass on the offer. It would be a long drive and I dont think it would really be worth the gas bill I would pile up. Thanks anyway
