Have any of you Flint owners ever had trouble removing the distributor from your E-6 Continental engine. I removed the screw from the side of the base that I thought held the distributor in place (like on other engines). I have removed the entire unit from the engine, which includes the water pump on one end and the other goes to the gear to the timing chain. The pot metal distributor is completely gone and the shaft that held the base will not move.
Sounds like Greek the way I described the problem..
Have tried to reach Jim Greensamyer and Bill Hoaglan.
Any takers????

Hi Yates...Just caught your post.
You did it correctly by removing the screw but the real problems is the pot metal distributor corrodes so badly you just can't get them out (in 1 piece)! Some of the metal distributors have a brass bushing that makes removal easier. You will probably have to destroy the distributor to save the housing then you'll have to find a metal replacement.
You do want to be very careful with that entire "Gang unit" you have removed from the side... especially the water pump. These are very hard to find and the water pump impeller is very fragile. I used a FARO scanner, scanned and made an NC Mill program to make a new impeller for Franks Star out of aircraft aluminum... worked great. All I need is a little time and I will do the same for our Flints.
I'll send you a few pics in a private email. Later, Jim G.
Here's a couple of pics of the water impeller process for your viewing.
Thanks Jim...
Will take photos of the Gang Unit and either post on the Forum or send to you by email. My unit looks just a little different.
Great to hear from you...

Yates .... I believe that all of the big Flint 55's and 80's had the same "gang" system down the right side of the motor. Here are a few pics from my computer. Hope this helps. Later, Jim G.
Jim,
Thanks a million for the great photos...They are very helpful.
Now, if I can just get some of the Flint owners to spit out some AutoLite
numbers they have on their distributors so Jack Conners and myself can
start looking for a replacement for our E6 engines.

Hello Yates....
I'm having trouble sending pics on my email again but wanted to let you know that I'm in the process of Nc machining new water pump impellers for the big Flints as I did for Star in the pics above. Might be done by early next week.
Did you and Jack get me distributor pics with the dimensions?
I also might have a line on a couple of those?? Later, Jim G.
