Re: Fuel level sensor/meter replacement for Durant 614
Good Morning. If you are careful going about the disassembly of the unit, it can be restored to working order. Mine was in the same shape and I was able to work each screw and fastener loose and clean each of the moving parts. The round unit on the top may need to be disassembled (drill out the rivets) to adjust the spring finger so it makes contact throughout its travel. Before installing new rivets, check the unit with an ohm meter to see that it works smoothly and properly throughout the travel. Let us know how you make out with it.
Re: Fuel level sensor/meter replacement for Durant 614
Juha , I gave you the info on the one I got from Horton's in the other forum
Instruction and Operation Manual, Durant 614
I would give Horton's an email to ask if they still have that one. I know its not shown in the online catalogue nor the old paper one they sent me free 2009. I was dealing with a Paul Barber at Horton's over it. I just checked the top of my unit and it has 100436 stamped in the metal on top and other side on top is 9/23.
You just twigged a memory about 0 - 90 ohms. There are two of that type one was 90 - 0 and other was 0 - 90. I borrowed and sat with a meter a long time trying to figure what ours did, after I removed the rivets. I'm sorry I don't recall now which ours is. Mine was froze (gears) at 65 ohms. I'm 99% sure its 0 empty and ohm's rises as you fill the tank.
Too expensive to call Horton's from your place but here's Horton's info ..
Give them the part info from the other forum and see if they still carry it so you know the correct one. The only thing that metal shop did right was I gave them the sending unit as they made that tank mess, and he cut and installed the unit as it should be in the tank. He makes custom gas tanks as well for rod's.
Here's the welding shop http://www.johnsonweldingworks.com/ which is has a few hot rod pic he's worked on.

Have you tried Stewart-Warner? They have a website. It's what I'm using, There is even a NOS sender on ebay now that looks close to the one I'm using. I can get the exact number of the one I have, but it was thirty years ago, so I'm pretty sure their parts numbers have changed. Ross

Juha,
Your sending unit may still be rebuildable.
I've used Atwater Kent now known as KM Lifestyle Products.
They rebuilt the water temp gauge in my 31 model 619 and can rebuild others.
They don't advertise the service but you can call them for details.

Juha;
I too have had my gas float repaired and rebuilt by them and also had them make me a new temperature sending unit. I dealt with a guy named Mike there at the time several years ago and the job was perfect.
