Coils?

Got a question for my fellow Durantonians. Are all coils the same? Besides of course 12 volt and 6 volt. Does our cars, particularly the 28/29 models take any special type of coil?

Re: Coils?

I've been using the one 6 volt coil available via NAPA. It's listed for an early VW. I use it on the Star and my 1950 Mercury. Works fine.

I can't think of any reason other than the outside dimensions or mounting brackets that they would differ.

Re: Coils?

Some so called Hot Rod coils differ in the number of turns of secondary windings to produce higher spark voltage. However, the hotter you go the shorter the life of the other ignition parts. Any standard 6v coil will work nicely on our applications if you don't have one of Frank's originals.
