In the past, I've had trouble grinding gears when down shifting. Now, I can't put the car into first gear without grinding. I've replaced the transmission fluid to no avail. I thought that maybe the friction plate wasn't moving off the flywheel far enough but I can't find any way to adjust this. Could this be caused by wear on the yoke fingers that ride on the throw out bearing?

P.S. There is an adjustment for the spring tension. Would this also affect the gap between the flywheel and friction plate?
Have you checked the alignment of the clutch shaft and the transmission input shaft? Take out the Spicer joint and use a straight edge. You may need to shim the engine or transmission.
Hi Vince,
There is a clutch adjustment by adjusting the 3 or 4
fingers between the clutch and throw out bearing.
Best is to own a Star repair manual where it is carefully spelled out,
along with most other important stuff.
I think Frank sells a reproduction manual.
Have fun and good luck!
