Curly wires on the ignition switch - help?

Hi again all,

I am cleaning up my ignition swithch at the moment. While doing so, I noticed these wires (the curly ones) looked as if they had shielding / insulation on them at some point in the past. I was wondering if this is something that should be replaced, ifso, by what? A guage of wire coiled?

Gerald.

I don't know the design details but the coiled wires are the resistance unit for dimming the headlights.

Thank you Don!

I thought it might be something like that. It looks like it had a fibre coating of some sort at one point. I was thinking it would be nice to replace it if I could figure out what it is :) and how much of 'it' I need.
