Yesterday I took some photographs of a Durant undergoing restoration owned by Frank Lersch of Hayward, California. The car has an interesting story behind it and is currently undergoing restoration. The car is and will continue to be a driver, not trailer queen. It has been driven on California freeways as well as back roads since Frank got it running a few years ago.
The pictures at the link below show how the car has been welded and new steel rods have been added to replace old dried out wood and add strength to the rumble seat area. I spoke to the shop owner and he expects to have the body prepped, sanded and painted in only two weeks from now.
The fenders will come off prior to painting and there is new wood to cut and replace the remaining dry broken wood. But the project is moving along at a steady rate so we can expect to see this old Durant back on the road very soon.
