Is there a difference in a 6 volt coil and a 12 volt coil.--Or are all coils the same?? I just dont know .
I have never thought of it before and just wondered about it since I have been having trouble with spark
Anyone know??

6 volt coils are still readily available, check with a tractor or Model A Ford dealer.
Also be sure your coil is hooked up properly. The polarity is marked on the terminals.
The points in the distributor are just a switch to ground. So if you have a negative grounded battery (Durants do) the Minus terminal is hooked to the points and the positive terminal is hot.
Well I had that figured right anyway. still having trouble getting the thing started but I am getting it narrowed down anyway. Still no spark that I can see at the plugs. sooner or later its gonna fire --then I maybe will be able to fine tune it and drive it .
Thanks everyone for all the advice.

Maybe this will help explain it. Why do spark plugs wear away the electrode? It's because of the "one way" travel of the current removes metal from the side electrode and deposits it on the center electrode. If you hook the coil up backward, the current would wear away the center electrode. This does not happen in a magneto ignition because it is an alternating current machine.
