Re: mounting tires

Gary use "gutterstrips" or "flaps" after you put tubes in. Yeah the model T split rim crank is almost mandatory. Ross

Gary:
Use a little dish soap on the tire, and use talcum powder on the tube. Makes everything slide easier, doesnt hurt the rubber and the talc helps to keep the tube slippery. Smells nice also.
Use a rubber hammer also when using the three armed tool.

Re: mounting tires

HOORAY FOR THE FAT KID !!!!!
I JUST FINISHED MOUNTING TWO 19 INCH TIRES WITH NEW TUBES AND FLAPS ONTO MY WHEEL RIMS....I THINK THEY WILL STILL BE HOLDING AIR IN THE MORNING AND I CAN MOUNT THEM ON CAR TOMORROW. I USED THE POWDER AND SOAPY WATER AND RUBBER HAMMER AND IT ALL WORKED WELL. ONLY PROBLEM WAS LEARNING HOW TO USE THE 3 ARMED CRANK TO SPLIT AND OVERLAP THE RIM. I PUT THE TWO BOTTOM ARMS TOGETHER WITH A CHAIN AND COULD BETTER PULL THE RIM TO OVERLAP FARTHER. THEY KEPT SLIDING WHEN I USED THEM IN A "TRIANGLE OR 3 SIDED SPREAD PATTERN.
I EVEN CLEANED AND PAINTED THE RIMS A BIT BEFORE MOUNTING EVERYTHING. MAYBE I CAN WRITE AN ARTICLE FOR CAROL...I TOOK NOTES AND PICTURES AS I WORKED.
THANX FOR THE ADVICE, GORD...AND OTHERS..
......REGARDS, GARY K
