A California Star comes to Hookstown

Hi All.......

Thought you might enjoy some pictures of the latest arrival! Just couldn't let Gary K. be the only one with 4 wheel brakes on the East coast.

This find was really a group effort. Buster Brown contacted Don Shilling about this car being for sale. Don contacted me. I saw pictures of the car while at the Texarkana meet. Called Buster from there, and made a possible deal on the car. Only problem was it was in Yuma Arizona, about as far from Hookstown PA that you can get. Bob & Stephanie Smith offered to bring it with them on their next trip to Flint Michigan, if I could get it to Tucson Az. Talked to Buster and he agreed to bring the car to Tuscon.

I met Bob & Stephanie this Sunday in Fort Wayne Indiana, and picked up the car. It is now home. Cathy has named the car "Buster". She likes to name our cars, but is running out of names.

Some details: Model F, title says 1923 but serial number shows as 1925. C-280439

Made in California. 4 wheel brakes !!!

THANKS everyone for all the help getting this car here.

Cathy naming the cars! It's kinda like The National Weather Bureau naming the huricanes. You know, Every year they start at the beginning of the alphabet and name the storms ( A-Z )and see how many letters they use!

Frank, makes me wonder when you'll make it to the G's?

Re: A California Star comes to Hookstown

Frank,
Talk about a small world...I thought that I had that Star staked out there in Yuma... Actually, I didn't realise that the Moore kids had this car up for sale..That model F was part of the Moore collection and when Mr. Moore passed on they sold the large farm they had in Dome Valley just East of Yuma and I had heard that the kids devided up his collection...They kept the Star in and open ended machine shed and needless to say the sand would almost bury those cars, most of his collection he kept in an enclosed metal building and was open for all to come and see just as long as you turned the lights off and shut the door when you left, he was a great guy...Here is a few pics of your car as it set in Dome Valley/ Yuma, AZ

Re: A California Star comes to Hookstown

Hi Guys.....

Thanks for all the info.

Don you are the one who started this project rolling. Appreciated the lead.

Jim I have the letter "G" reserved for you or possibly Gary K. Cathy likes the idea.

Bill, thanks for more history about the car. I wondered where all the dust and dirt came from! 70mph across Ohio on an open trailer did take care of most of it. Around our area when we see that much dirt, we think flood car. I guess out west it would be a wind car.

Norm, I sure do appreciate the ideas on names. But it was Cathy who told me to buy this car. When I showed her the pictures in Texarkana, she said nice car when is it coming?

Now I need a Rugby truck...plus more room!

See yunz in Hershey.......Frank ---

Re: A California Star comes to Hookstown

Good for Cathy.

Nice to have your spouse keen on vintage cars and willing to go to flea markets to help look as well. With Di's scooter she can now join me at flea markets in searching, rather than sitting at the ends of rows of sellers on her walker, while I did the searching. Unfortunately I can't do the same with sports with Di and her Senator's hockey team. I hate all sports as does my bro and Diana will never take me to another Sens game. Counted the holes in the ceiling tiles, who put garbage in the bins, and with back to the game I did Suduki puzzles, until my purgatory was over. Only thing half interesting was the zamboni perhaps.

Keep your eyes pealed for parts for the 32 at Hershey, I sent you a list of last Sept as asked by you. Norm
