The Raymere, stately French influenced mansion of General Motors founder, William C. Durant was located at Runyon and Ocean Avenues in Deal, NJ. In September 1951, the Arnold Wrecking Company began a seven-week project to level the mansion. I haven't had time to check it out but I would imagine some new, large home was then built there.
There is a photo of the mansion in one of the Images of America books entitled, "Around Deal Lake." These books are located at most of the Barnes and Nobel bookstores. We have a copy of it in our museum.
We also found a couple of newspaper articles referring to Mr. Durant. One states that at 901 First Ave in Asbury Park the Reo Automobile business was located. The president of that agency, William G. Durant was founder of the General Motors Corporation and lived in Deal.
The other article was from Middlemarch Films, 133W, 21st St, New York who were producing a film on the 1929 era and were looking for information of William G. Durant.
Hope this helps you.
