Engine date

I have an engine with the following numbers. These numbers are on the tag. Star 14L, Ser.No. 15429. On the block is a casting date of 3-10-26. Cylinder head has a date of 2-22-26. Head also has a number of 8LA 616. I would like to know what I have here without tearing it apart, mostly for tune up specs and spark plugs. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Engine date

The dates are the casting dates of the block and head

Re: Engine date

Could I assume that this engine is a 1926 Star engine? I really don't want to tear it apart and check the bore size, or is this the only way to find out what vintage 14L engine I have. Thanks again.

Re: Engine date

Al,

Al, to my knowledge there were two different 14L's, 1926-28 = 165 cubic inches and the 1929 version at 185 cubic inches.
So yours should be 165 CI.
