Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

To celebrate getting a new(ish) and very respectable car this week Pete has issued Juppy's Jalopy Challenge. Can you beat Pete's long list of questionable motors?

Renault 4 (scrapped)

Primer grey Ford Anglia Estate with no seat belts (gave it to a neighbour)

MKII Ford Escort Estate (scrapped)

Gold coloured Austin Princess (gearbox blew up and scrapped)

Talbot Sunbeam (gave it to my drum tech)

A very bad example of a Ford XR3i, no alloys or anything (swapped it for a Gibson 335 a great deal for me! The car had been parked up for 4 months, foot wells full of water and mould on interior)

Black Skoda Rapid - this was when they were a joke. (Every time Merv borrowed it the car overheated but I did manage to sell it, although funnily enough not to Merv)

MKI Ford Fiesta (the engine blew up on the M4 travelling back from Cornwall, had another fitted from a breakers -gave it away)

Citroen BX (I have never hated a car so much in my life, felt good scrapping it)

MKII Vauxhall Cavalier with a dodgy cylinder (gave it to Spencer, singer with The Barnstormers)

Rover 827 Auto with a 2.7 Honda V6 engine (this car was soooo fast, an old man's car that could leave most hot hatches in its wake. Mine had a dodgy gearbox, the drivers door wouldn’t open, it looked like crap but I adored it. Scrapped with a tear in my eye)

Red MKI Ford Mondeo TD Estate (scrapped with 250k on clock)

Dark blue MKII Ford Mondeo TD Estate (scrapped with 200K on clock)

Still have a white MKII Ford Mondeo Estate TD for transporting my gear around.

Re: Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

I really can't imagine anyone beating that little list!

Re: Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

Juppy - Are you related to Delboy ?

"This time, next year Rodders, we will all be millionaires"

I cannot believe anyone is going to beat this list its very impressive.

Re: Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

Thank goodness Juppy's taste in music is better than his taste in cars [:)s]

Also - Renault 4 and Ford Anglia!! Those must have been antiques even before Juppy learned to bounce up and down on his bass drum! [:D]

Re: Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

I do believe we have a winner and it's John! Pete / Steve - could you send him some of your stage duct tape to keep the Calibra going!

John - if it get's too rusty just tape it all together and get in and out via the windows, Dukes of Hazard style! [:))]

Re: Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

Ok peeps er' we go!

1. Mk4 Cortina 1.6L (given by Dad) but much to big for a new driver.

2. Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L, a bit more like what i learnt in at the driving school. Sold.

3. MG Metro, cool little thing, like a go-cart with rust! Written off when some old fart drove into me.

4. 73 MG Midget, bought a pile of sh~t! Lovely car but so much wrong with it. Massive oil burner.

5. 72 MGB, lovely car with the wire wheels, red with white hood...just a little too old man. Nice car though

6. 84 Sierra 1.6L Bought at night and what a shed! Brakes failed the next day and the garage charged me for two sets of brake pads as the left caliper was a Sierra one the right was a Granada. Enough said, sold on to a taxi firm.

7. Mk3 Escort 1.6 Ghia. Lovely car that had an intermittant problem. Spent a bloody forture on it, gave up in the end and part exchanged for:

8. Cavalier 1.8 CDI. Lush car (at the time!), did everything really well but then i test drove:

9. 1.6 Mk1 Golf GTI. OK this baby was a hot hatch with a difference, the 1.6 was rebuilt at 1.85L and was full race (from 110bhp to 155bhp) which was something else. So much fun...

10. 1972 MG Midget with a body kit. Bought this as second car at the car auctions for £150. Had been pulled out of a barn but had MOT. Drove it home with busted rad and seized rear brakes. Cleaned out the barn residue, £25 for a second hand hood, some mats and a bottle of RadWeld. Hey presto sold for £1850 (wish they were all like that!)

11. 67 Lotus Elan SE, massive loan but lovely car. Repayments very quickly forced sale!

12. 1.8 Golf GTI. Bought off a mate who had practically from new. He was a mechanic and kept it 110%. Best car i ever had and the most fun. Spent alot of money on it (£3.5k race engine, trick ratio gearbox, LSD, suspension, race brakes etc etc). Ended up at 175hp and was quicket to 100mph than an Escort Cosworth...Absolute rocket, 72mph in 2nd 105 in 3rd, off the clock in 4th and it was a five speed! Happy days (and massice overdraft!)

13. Family arrived and the Golf went for a 1.6L Sierra, utter crap but we all fitted in it (just).

14. Cavalier 1.8SRI hatch. Bought and drove home 100 miles. Gave it to my wife to drive around the block, she sgtripped the main bearings! Got that fixed then knocked over an Irish Wolfhound (i thought it was a sheep). Scrapped.

15. Cavalier 2.0SRI 130. Nice car actually, only sold bigger car needed.

16. C reg Granada 2.0L Ghia. First automatic and was fab. gearbox problems meant is was time to move on.

17. E reg Volvo 2.3 estate. Big old bus. Lovely and auto aswell. Hence gearbox failing and sold on!

18. E reg Bedford Midi minibus! OK far from the height of fashion, but there were now 7 of us and a seven seater was too expensive. Saying that it was the best fun money could buy (with a large family) we went everywhere and took everybody with us (including Steve/Pete to the pub whilst mixing Brass Monkey!). Rock and Roll!

19. K reg Carlton Estate 2.0L CDX (with rear seat conversion). Cool car and did us very well. Luuuuxuurryy.

20. R reg Renault Espace Seven Seater. The first 'one owner, fairly new, low mileage, full main dealer service history' car....everything went wrong on it! In 18 months the auto box went (twice), head gasket, aircon, brake master cylinder. Sold to a friend in works daughter (yes she new the history). They ran it for 6 years without fault!

21. Y reg Mondeo 2.0L Ghia Estate. All round great car, really like it.

22. 55 Focus C-max TDCI Ghia. Again a great allround car. Three trouble free years. Would recommend Ford from this era. Well made!

23. E reg, Peugeot CTI (an old school 205GTI with no roof). Bought as second car for £300 and drove for 12 months without spending a penny on it. Looked terrible but always worked and was great when the sun was out. Sold with no MOT for £275. Cheap motoring at its best!

24. 58 Citroen Grande Picasso 1.6 TD. Besides a few gremlins I really like this car, definately 'quirky french' in design but goes really well, loads of room & 50+ mpg. Its also got a Ferrari type flappy paddle gearbox with no clutch!

Next, who knows! wife wants a BMW convertible (prefferably in pink), i fancy a Mitsubishi EVO 10.

Re: Juppy's Jalopy Challenge

Someone's gonna have to go a long way to beat DT on this one!!!
