F/O Ernie Twells had his DFC gazetted on 13/10/1944 while he was with 617 Squadron. He flew as a flight engineer on the raid that sank the Tirpitz on 12/11/1944 in aircraft rego PB-415 as a F/O. Other crew were: Pilot, F/Lt R.E. Knights; Nav,F/O T.H. Playford; B/A, F/O A.J. Walker;W/Op, F/O R.L. Hayter; R/G, W/O W.H. Pengelly. Hope this helps.
