Re: Re: Re: rear gunner John Johnson

Are you sure that Edward Cuthbert Johnson was not the bomb aimer and that he survived the war?

Johnie Johnson was a tail end gunner and survived the war and died in 1999.

Thanks for the reply.

This is a bit of a mystery.

I have a print called "Salute to a legend" by P Holland, on it is the usual set of signatures, along with Johnny Johnson DFC ex F/LT 617 squadron RAF Lancaster AJ-N on "the raid". This print was purchased from Vic Hallam at the Derwent dam museum who said this is a very rare signature. Edward Cuthbert Johnson is the Johnny Johnson

Alan,

Have you got any other info to go on such as, did he survive the war or was he killed, i've come across a Sgt J.W. Johnson 101sqdn rear-gunner who was killed 23/5/44.

Can anyone confirm whether "Johnie Johnson" ( no, not the spitfire pilot ) flew with 617 or any other Lancaster squadron?
