The Cameron Highlanders - Egypt 1952;

Hi

My late Father;Ian Sutherland MacDonald from Inverness, did his National Service with The Camerons between 1951 and 1953.He spent time in Austria and Egypt.

I was recently looking at some of his old ARMY PHOTOS,came across one of a Parade Inspection and Guard.It was taken in Egypt in 1952,I recall my Father telling me that the Commander in Chief undertaking the inspection was the son of Haigs Whisky. Is this correct? And would anyone know where exactly in Egypt the Regiment were stationed at this time ?

Thanks

Re: The Cameron Highlanders - Egypt 1952;

1st Camerons were in Egypt 1951 - 1952 and stationed at Tel-el-Kabir. The Bns task was to protect the Ordnance base from Egyptian sabotage,theft & sniping. They were also involved in countering terrorist activity. As for the inspecting officer it is possible!

Hope this helps, I wasn't there but got the info from Regimental History.
