I want to express my thanks to your storied unit, its veterans and serving members. My son has won the 2010 Champion Supreme Award, Grade IV Juvenile Snare, for the Eastern United States Pipe band Association (EUSPBA). He did so by playing "The 79th Farewell to Gibralter" as his march throughout the season, taking 1st Place with it at every competition he played.
As a veteran myself of the U.S. Marine Corps I know how important the songs and history of our service and units can be. I also studied History as my major in college. For these reasons he and I have shared a very detailed story of your unit and the history of the song he was playing. He was encouraged to play it with the respect and dignity it deserved.
