Re: ID Sterling London Maker's Mark dated 1858-9

I suspect your flatware was marked by the firm of Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater. They took over the business started by Thomas Wallis in 1756. Flatware was part of their inventory.

It is impossible to confirm without an image of the mark. The mark used during that year used block letters with serifs and encased in a 4 lobed cartouche.
