Silver Mug - Lieutentant Colonel Donkin, Sir RS Donkin

We have a beautiful silver mug which has been in the family for over 20 years and are trying to identify who was the silversmith.
On the bottom there is information on who bought the mug and the earliest date is 1776 Lieut Colonel Rob Donkin, America.
There is also the symbol P * R but have been unable to determine if this is a makers mark despite a fair bit of effort. WE have been able to find some information on the Donkins who were obviously prominent figures in the military in a number countries including during the War of Independence which is when we believe Donkin came into possession of the mug.
Any information would be appreciated. I do have photos and would be happy to show. I would love to know who made and if it was made in America and by who.
Thank you very much.

Clare,

If you could send images of your cup with images of any marks, we might be able to help you identify the maker.
