Haze that won't polish away.

I have several sterling hollow ware items that I received completely blackened with tarnish. With a lot of elbow grease, water, and wright's silver cream, they are mostly shiny and silver. But they still have a bit of a cloudy white haze that won't go away no matter how much I polish.

What is this it and is there any way to remove it short of putting the pieces on a wheel?

Have you read through the Silver Care Guide? I would try some Haggerty Silver Polish, which is a bit more abrasive, on a cotton ball. If the cloudy area is small, you may want to use it on a Q-tip.

Thanks for the idea.

I've already tried the Wright's Silver cream and the Weiman Silver Polish. Is the Haggerty more abrasive than either of those?
