Question on Silver Goblets and the Need for gilding or Not?

I am not a silversmith .. I am looking at designing and having some silver Wine goblets hand made from Sterling. Can any one indicate if one needs to Gild (in gold) silver goblets being used for wine drinking purposes?
Can one use goblets for wine without gilding?
Are there damaging elements in wine ?
Due to looks, we'd prefer to NOT have them gilded as it will detract from the "pure" silver look, but want to be sure they are created properly if there is a specific reason or approach when considering wine.

Many thanks.

Re: Question on Silver Goblets and the Need for gilding or Not?

I suspect there is little in the wine that would leach out harmfull elements in the sterling or cause any damage to the silver. I would only suggest rinsing the goblets after use. I think it is a great idea to use the goblets for wine and anything else you may choose to use in them. Silver is to be used and enjoyed. Guilding is sometime used to plate the inside of the goblet though not necessary.
