Apparatus at Nash Point Lighthouse

At Nash Point Lighthouse we have a "contraption" whose original purpose is unclear to us.

Please see today's post on Nash Point Lighthouse for a few pics of it.

If anyone can tell us the purpose of it and what it was meant to do we would be very grateful.

It appears to be in two sections, the major part is most likely a timepiece of some sort and the minor part seems to be a mechanism to sound out regular beats.

It is from Trinity House and would have been at one of their Lighthouses or Lightships.

All replies would be welcomed.

Many thanks.

Re: Apparatus at Nash Point Lighthouse

Hi Chris, although I've never seen one before, the pics instantly said explosives automatic fog gun to me. I worked with several older keepers who had operated one and somehow this rings a bell (no pun). Try Gerry as there might be a pic or description of one on file. The only person I suspect might recall am automatic fog gun is Grahm Fearne.
Otherwise, spectacular pics.

Re: Apparatus at Nash Point Lighthouse

Hi Chris,
Could you email some pictures of this apparatus as I don't do facebook? I'll reserve any ideas until I see an image.

All the best,
