seperating waste can help to reduce it: In Austria we have different bins for a) paper b) biological waste (food but no meat or bone rests) c)plastic bottles d) glass bottles (white/coloured)e)metal (tins etc.)and these all get recycled.
There are also no free plastic bags in the supermarkets so people more likely will reuse them
Another idea would be that if people buy a new fridge the shop must take back the old one and to be responsible for the correct recycling or deposition.
Cans with gas should generally be forbidden because of the global warming effect (but I am afraid the interests of the industries producing these environment-killers are too strong as that such ideas ever turned reality. So itīs up to the consumers)
