Just installed a dw1483 and the rear view mirror button fell off. This is one where the standard GM button is adhered to a black ceramic frit area of the windshield.
A couple years ago I was told not to use the regular Loctite adhesive that we use when bonding the bracket to the glass, as the black frit area absorbs more heat and cracks the glass at the mirror button.
If this is true, what is a good "instant" adhesive to adhere back to the ceramic frit.
What brand of epoxy do you use and where do you buy it? What other uses have you found for it besides mirror buttons?
I have used urethane with great success on these. But you have to plan ahead and urethane the bracket on the new shield as the first step in doing the job...or else it will not have the strength to hold the mirror up and you will be going back the next day to put the customers mirror on. :)
go to the 3m automotive website and under the auto adhesive title you will find a double back tape that is designed for applying mirror buttons works real good and cost less than the liquid loctite . Once you order it and get the part number you can ask your local Autozone to stock it for you and actually get for $3.75 less then from the 3m site.
