Baranov T2 Results

The Turn Two results are out for the five commanders in the Baranov Bridgehead scenario. The Russians laid down walls of smokescreens to shield their advance, then more smokescreens to blind German observers, then punched 40 armored fighting vehicles through the screens to attack the Germans in a pitched battle. The center of the board is now littered with smouldering wrecks and disabled tanks. Polish partisans and minefields delay the advancing German armored division, but some are overrun by armored cars and security platoons, while the underground forces near Bednost are being dog-piled by Panthers, Tigers and MkIVs. Meanwhile, a pair of Stukas makes a pass, admiring the target-rich environment. Both sides manuever forces unseen by the other and bring up reinforcements. The battle is heating up!

Re: Baranov T2 Results

The book says smoke screens favor the attacker. The Germans are susposed to be doing a counter attack, but this has many characteristics of a meeting engament, so I dont see the smoke as a major problem. For us at least. The partisan & minefield locations are unpredictable. Otherwise the enemy has usually been found where I suspected.

Re: Baranov T2 Results

The battle is going according to plan. The German move so far is not a problem for the Russian command and the Partisans are doing their jobs with excellent efficiency. The Russian command is thankful for all the supplies of smoke ammo sent by our American friends. We believe we have used and will continue to use these supplies to support our attack.

While we could have easily decided on a pure defense strategy, that would be too predictable and would have allowed the enemy to pick the battle zone. That will not be the case!

From the ineffectiveness of the German artillery, I have to believe that the smoke is doing its job in blinding the ability of the enemy to see what is going on and being able to direct their heavy stuff. We know that the German big guns are hiding in the NW and SW woods and we will deal with them shortly.
