Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

I am trying to get my guestbook to appear in the middle frame of a frameset page called cat_guestbook_frameset.html. I have the free account at present and have read the warnings in the help forums that suggest that frames and free do not mix well.

I'm not sure I'm reading those warnings correctly to understand if the banner ads (which I do not object to having in the middle frame where the guestbook is to reside) will also be displayed in the otherwise unrelated top and bottom frames.

Either way, I'd like to understand the steps I need to take to display the guestbook inside the middle frame. I tried going through the general settings and choosing a selected target and telling it to look for gbook.html, and when that didn't work I tried catherinebusinelle.com/gbook.html.

Can you please tell me the proper thing to do or the proper code to put in the frame to get the guestbook to display? And can you tell me if I understood correctly about the ad banners being in not only the middle frame, but also the top and bottom frames?

Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give! I know the same types of questions probably show up here often, and I apologize that I couldn't figure out an answer by looking through older posts--I tried, honest!

Re: Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

Let me correct what I said. I was correct when I said that the code you have now will not display your guestbook in your frame. It has been a while since I used a Bravenet guestbook, and I forgot what their instructions are like.

I think what you need to do is, in the page with the frameset, replace this code:

with the following:

I'm not 100%-sure about the noresize, but that's what you have now, and I'll let you decide if it does what you want.

Re: Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

i dont think the free hosting is able to support frames (or so i was informed).

Re: Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

the free hosting doesn't support frames so would be better off not using frames

you say you don't mind the banners in the frame and on the pages but can be annoying

Re: Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

Cathy, you have a very attractive and well-designed site. Your site is not a bravenet free site, so the frames issue raised by the last two responders is irrelevant. You may want to try going to the Bravenet knowledge base and query "frames", I see that there are several (6) entries which may answer your question.

Incidently, in the three years I've been associated with Bravenet, I've never seen a single official statement from Bravenet forbidding the use of frames on a free website. But I dont use frames or free websites, so I may have missed something.

Re: Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

Cathy has made the change I suggested (I forgot to mention, that gbook.html page should be deleted), so now her guestbook is appearing when people visit her Guestbook page:

www.catherinebusinelle.com/cat_guestbook.html

Now some images she is trying to bring in to the guestbook page are not appearing, because there is no "images" subdirectory within the guestbook. I think once she removes those img tags, everything should be fine.

The images at the top are not needed, because they already appear in the top (navigation) frame. And the images at the bottom are not needed, because they appear in the bottom frame.

Re: Please clarify (re: guestbook and frames)

there is no guestbook subdirectory never has been

so if she wants to put any images on her guestbook design

then she needs to login in her registered webtools section click the guestbook link then go to the look and feel section and design her guestbook the way she likes

any images she uses need to be loaded to her file manager area for her site and she just puts the link to a guestbook header if she wants to design one or something there it asks for in the look and feel area then she hits save and her changes should take place
