We built a website using a standard template. We then found another template that we preferred so attempted to load that template. Now when we access our external website, it only shows the new template without our content. However, when we are in editing/managing our website, it is still in the original template formate. Wierd. Can someone offer some advice?

If you think we can answer that without your URL, shouldn't you address Us in a more worshipful manner? As it is, we can just make wild guesses.

First guess. You had a Wizard site, and thought you could upload one of the templates from the Web Template Gallery and edit that in Wizard. Well, since I don't know if this is correct or not, I'll won't elaborate much. But there is no way to do that.

There is an excellent tutorial on Bravenet Templates which can help you solve the problem if my guess is right.
