Ken, I would suggest using a different counter. Statcounter.com offers free counters that are loaded with features. You could put one on your home page and one on the Availibility page, and thus get individual stats for site visits vs. individual page visits. I've used statcounter for nearly 3 years, and highly recommend it.
Whatever counter you use you need to explicitly put one on every page that you want to count.
With Bravenet you create a separate counter for each page and get separate stats for each page.
With statcouner you create one "project" and put the same counter on multiple pages. They give you one set of stats for the site making it easier to look at how visitors interact with your site as a whole but more difficult to look at the performance of individual pages.
Both Bravenet and Statcounter have plus and minus points, the choice depends on your specific requirements.
My personal preference is for Statcounter for my main site and Bravenet for my blog.
