Using WS_FTP Pro- Getting connection failure

I am new just signed up today,
created a new account trying to upload via WS_FTP Pro, keep getting connection failure message
I have checked and rechecked info (host name user name password) they are correct as far as I can tell...the only thing Iam unsure of is putting "/" symbol in remote folder area? I do not have that option that I can see with this prog!

Emily, in my FTP program, that is entered in the block labeled "download path". I'm not sure I understand why it is so labeled.
