HAVING PROBLEMS WITH LINKS. . .READ

I wanted to share a little information that I learned over the weekend.

I added a link to my website using the link button and it would not work. When I would click on the link, another window would as if the file were going to open but nothing appeared.

I verified I had used the right file name, there were no typos but it would not work.

Eventually I got it to work but I want to share what I did so it might help you too!

1. MY ORIGINAL FILE NAME HAD AN APOSTROPHE

Get rid of special characters in the file name. The system will allow you to upload a file named: Directions to Jim's house.pdf, but it won't work if you want to use a link to access it.

When I changed the name, the new name was--DirJimsHouse.pdf

2. MY ORIGINAL FILE NAME WAS LONG

I don't really know if shortening it made any difference but I did it anyway. I made the name less than 18 characters since that seems to be a limiting factor elsewhere. The file name was no more than 14 to allow for the extension--.doc, .pdf, .xls etc

After doing this, the link worked just fine.

If this was posted elsewhere that I didn't read, I apologize, but it may help someone.

Take care
