Re: Cannot publish website! Please help.

A little more information about what you are doing and what software you are doing it with would help.

I would suggest:
1. read the thread on a similar topic started by macmac below.
2. Log in to your Bravenet account and check that you have your FTP parameters correct.

By the way, in Bravenet the word "publish" is normally used to refer to a function in the Website Wizard.

Re: Cannot publish website! Please help.

Rick,

Make sure that you have the correct URL for your website. I hope you saved the email or info somewhere that tells you what your URL password etc. It is the introduction from Bravenet that you got in an email.

If not just get a ticket and ask them what your URL is.

Read at top of site on what beginners or free sites are supposed to do.

Then make sure you do have the correct information.

Most people do not like to use the wizard but it does have a utility that says finish site and publish. There is a button to that effect. Click it.

either you have deleted your index.html page and uploaded your homepage as somethingsilly.html or homepage.html

need to change the name of your homepage to index.html

your homepage needs to be named index.htm or index.html depending on the extension you want to use

you do not delete the index.html page that is in your file manager when you first sign up for your free site or purchase a domain

and also make sure your index.html page is in your ROOT directory as well

if perhaps it is in a folder titled index_files or something then take your index.html page out of there and put it in your main directory

when you sign up for a free site

your URL is xxxx.bravehost.com/index.html that is the way bravenet sets it up

or if you have a domain then it is yourdomainname.com/index.html and all YOU do is upload your index.html page over it nothing more

but some people delete that index.html file there and put in their own named page for their homepage and can't do that.
