Hi John, and thanks very much for the reply.
Peter Holtham left the NT Fire Service in February 1982, and was on 12 June 1982 awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal (QFSM). Could this be the award for bravery that you mentioned? The QFSM was awarded for 'distinguished service' and was the forerunner to the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM).
John, are you possibly able to confirm dates at all? I had heard that he left the NTFS to "take up an appointment in New Guinea", so he probably started with BCL in 1982. I would very much like to find out when he left Bougainville again and returned to Australia.
