He was a top bloke, very popular and well liked. He took over what was at best a real shambles.......... and he instilled discipline and got the fire crews he had inherited to take pride in their appearance and their performance. Heaven help us were we ever to undergo a major fire ..... until Peter's arrival that is.
He got his firemen into shape, it wasn't uncommon to see them running along the road or playing volleyball. I was fortunate to attend a couple of courses Peter ran and I was very impressed with his dedication and his professionalism.
Apparently he had won an award for bravery when he rescued someone from a fire and it was presented to him by Her majesty Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. |
