Hungerford 2 Almondsbury 1

An unkind North Leigh supporter might well have called this Final the Battle of the Bridesmaids. And in one way he could well be roight in that neither team was the fininshed marriageable article both missing core players through suspension or injury. I would, perconally, prefer to call it the Final of the Six Strikes. The first three strikes resulted in goals. Strike one, a goal for Almonds in the first half, spinning off a boot and into the far corner. The Almondsbury forward who scored might claim it as a crafted lob. Well he would, wouldnt he.Strike two was Hungerford's equaliser,a firm Fitch header from a whipped in Gosling cross. Strike three, the Hungerford winner, a Fitch shot that looped off a defender's leg and over a stranded goalie into the net. So what about the other strikes, I witnessed. Strike four, aan Almonds fan, drunk and angry, who smacked a Hungerford supporter on the right eye. This was before half time and the uncontrolled behaviour rumbled on into the second half. Strike five, an Almonds player wacking Fitch on the back of his head. Red card.Seconds later, an Almonds midfielder, in the same melee, grabbed the saintly Toby Clark by his testicular jewels, and presumably twisted. Red card. As it was 1-1 at the time, with only 9 men standing Almondsbury were never going to stop Hungerford scoring a winner and they didnt. Are Almonds a dirty side? I, personally wouldnt make a universal truth out of one performance. Their manager, I am sure, would proudly say they are a committed side. Many spectators, on this showing, would say they should be.

Re: Hungerford 2 Almondsbury 1

Well as a Hungerford fan I must say I was rather suprised by the behavour coming from certain Almonds fans. There were some Very personal attacks towards fans and some of Hungerfords players and when I simply "defended our players' honour" I was accused of being 'gobby'.... oh the irony there.
However karma had its way and the best team won!
Good Game lads... you did us all proud!

Re: Hungerford 2 Almondsbury 1

well done to all, am sorry to have missed the final but circumstances collaborated to prevent me attending.

Judging by the second 3 strikes it was probably just as well

Who was the Hungerford supporter that caught one ?? and will the league be investigating the behaviour of the Almonds fans and club as whole.

I recommend a 15 point deduction for next season

Re: Hungerford 2 Almondsbury 1

I dont know his name. The incident happened behind the goal a few yards from me so if youd been at your usual place you would certainly had a chance to get involved. I last saw the victim setting off in search of an apology just before half timeand a little later Taylor was in a group near the club house seemingly arguing the toss. It definitely added a little colour to what was not not, in footballing terms, a particularly good game.

Congratulations to all on finishing the season on a high.I would also like to know which supporter was on the end of the strike.
I would also like to thank Chris for his match reports during the season. Chris hopefully you will remember me from the Fairford game earlier in the season, I am the one now living in Australia, thanks for the updates, and hopefully even if Jamie moves on can you please still watch Hungerford and keep me updated with the reports.
Lastly can I ask - did you ever play tennis?

Yes, I did Harry, so KP's answer on my behalf was half right.Jamie thinks he can beat me now at tennis. But he is just a young man dreaming.

Re: Hungerford 2 Almondsbury 1

Unfortunately I think you will find that mass confrontations and bookings/sendings off and crowd issues tend to lead both sides into fines for the non-control of players/officials/Spectators...so see what the post brings from the Berks and Bucks and (of course) the good old Hellenic League! Better get your cheque book and pen at the ready!

But well done on holding onto the Challenge Cup - and well done to Macca for scoring the winner - nice guy and good clubman!
