Hungerford 9 Wallingford 0
While returning from the Irish Open Poker Tournament ( I witnessed a young man win over 500000 pounds with an A9 against a KJ) on the Dublin to Holyhead ferry, I was, as you would expect reading the Times. And, blow me, there was a quote from Jose Mourinho that I felt reflected the dilemma of Alan Clark this season. The "special one " wrote " football intelligence never wins admirers but football heart never wins success." Ole, Jose. Today, the Hungerford side that trotted out was the intelligent eleven playing precise passing football. In the first half Conners could have scored a hat trick but the bony bits of the Wallingford keeper kept getting in the way. 'Goals'r' us' did score eventually, the result of a display of head tennis in the box which ended with Conners nutting into the netting. As a contest it was about as even as Hitler invading Poland. In the second half, no surprise, Hungerford scored eight.Three more for the unsmiling assassin, Conners, one each for Clark,Edders,Gosling, Terry and Austin. Best of the bunch? Edders inividual effort which started close to the half way line and finished with him planting the ball firmly into the far corner. Worst of the bunch? Gosling having dribbled past half of the Wallingford defence plus the referee andhis assistant, fell over and somehow placed the ball over the line with his right buttock. Or was it his left. When you win 9-0 everyone plays well. So MOM? I give it to the Wallingford goalie. I know he let nine in but no wally. Like King Canute he couldnt stop the waves crashing in.Unlike King Canute he kept trying.

Re: Hungerford 9 Wallingford 0
PS: Toby Clark didnt do a 'drag back' once, played the ball around like Di Stefano and even smacked the ball in from all of eight yards. Who says the players dont read, and learn, from this forum.
