Hungerford 2 North Leigh 3
O>K> so the fair result would probably been a draw. So what. North Leight scored three, Hungerford scored 2-2two. End of story. They were five great goals. Edney's strike for Hungerford's first was probably the best goal I have seen all season. Five yards out of the penalty area it flew like a homing pigeon into the top stanchion; the goalie didnt even blink. NL equalised just before HT, a perfect volley. Start of the second half, and Brewer added a new skill to his game, another perfect volley into the top left hand corner.NL came back, Clark sliced a clearance with all the time in the world, and the error was capitalised on with another great strike.2-2. The NL winner was a clone of the Whitely Bay winner, two Hungerford defenders got in each others way leaving space for the NL attacker to romp through clear, round the goalie and finish decisively. Like the game against Witney earlier in the week, an exciting game between two good sides, a triumph of effective finishing. With trepidation, because I like the family very much, I offer a suggestion to Toby. Hes being caught too often in midfield and losing the ball which is putting the defence under pressure. Either a) move the ball on quicker b) work on your pace to make space c) bin that dreadful drag back that gives the opposition asn extra chance to take the ball off you. This advice is offered with humility and respect. To go from the personal to promotion, I gather Almonds lost to Witney. I am not surprised and the season is still alive.

Re: Hungerford 2 North Leigh 3
Chris Gos - I watch Hungerford most weeks and am really impressed by the ball skills of a lot of the players. However, your ability to undermine players is there for wanting as in you see what you want to see. The nice side of the game is so easy on the eye but what wins games in football is the s**t side of the game - dig in and graft a game out. You never mention this side of the game when the silky skills are not available to be shown off. Hungerford have some superb skilful players but when they have to dig in they carry a number of players in my view. Chris -think about that - no names mentioned!! Your silky match winning players go missing when you want them most.
OK so we are all upset about todays result but I am sure Clarkey knows whats going on - he's been in the game long enough!! Even if his son does not perform he will not take that lightly and will deal with it as necessary. For a supporter of the lovely football that is played at Hungerford Town I am beginning to wonder whose side you are on? Let the manager deal with those matters - you really should not talk about individual players, good bad or indifferent.
Take off those rose tinted glasses. A Bulpit Lane supporter for ever - I've watched the Crusaders for the last 20 years and believe me when we play, we play.

Re: Hungerford 2 North Leigh 3
Busy, to answer the coherent points in your post a) Ive watched Toby since he was 17 and it is because I think he is such a good player that I feel able to suggest that since his injury heis being caught on the ball too often. In the higher leagues to be caught in possession in central midfield is a serious crime punishable by banishment to the stiffs. If Toby thinks my comments unfair he and I get on together well enough for him to tell me. b) In my view, the s**t side of football, as you put it, does not win games, hard work and effort keeps you in contention. Goals win games and goals almost invariably happen through defensive mistakes or attacking expertise. All the goals inthe NL game,as against Witney, were the result of superb shooting and finishing skillsfrom the three sides. Sweat, although there was plenty being splashed about, had very little to do with either result. To me the most depressing sound on an English football groundis that snarled shout "get stuck in". c) You are implying that when the going gets tough my son hides ( oh, yes you are )Of course even being a Hungerford supporter for 20 years, you wernt at Greenwich were you. You are entitled to that opinion. In my experience, all football players, unless carrying an injury,do the best they can every game. d) You say I shouldnt commenton the personal performance of individual players. I suppose you mean criticise.I presume unstinting praise would be acceptable to you.I should leave such matters to Alan and his team.Having read your previous posts, youre definitely a friend of the management.I assure you , if I thought my myopic musings made any difference to the morale or performance of the team I would cease posting forthwith. I might not agree with you views but will defend to the death...blah,blah,blah. You will be pleased to know that I will be in Ireland next week and will be taking my rose tinted spectacles but not my lap top, with me.So you will have a rest from my ramblings. Inthe meantime, Busy, I wish you a Happy Easter.

Sorry Busy but that is absolute total and utter bo11ox !
As far as i am concerned i pays my money and that gives me every right to discuss the on pitch performances, and player abilities. It is not a personal insult to anyone , and we are not implmenting character assinations. We are expressing a view on the performance. Freedom of speech is something i believe our ancestors fought long and hard for, and i for one am not about to relinquish that right because somebody doesnt like it.
Next you will be campaigning to Radio 5, to stop the 606 show, as heavens forbid somebody might ring in to discuss their teams performance !
