Lydney 0 Almonds 2
Credit where credit is due. Almondsbury deserved their win. This is a team of motivated munchkins ( they must be the smallest team in the league) and they run and run and run. Highly organised and energetic even on a damp thursday night in deepest forest country, who will beat them. For a start a team that recognises their set play strategy is to drive a ball to the far post. Their two goals were scored that way, one from a corner, one from a free kick. How good are their defence. Who knows because Lydney having scored five against Hungerford never got a shot off in anger. In support of Lydney, this was their 3rd game in 6 days, and two of their most influential players, Danny Clark (?) and Pete Macklin (Australia) were missing. Unfortunately, I had an exchange of views with the Lydney Manager who I instinctively like because he has even less hair than me. He called me a nob, which would be o.k. if he meant the 19th century usage i.e. a toff. But did he mean knob i.e. idiot. The ambiguity is going to keep me awake all night.
