Re: Abingdon

Obviously Chris you dont have quite the same gift as me for selectively missing the correct games

The first goal came from a deep cross which the luckless Abingdon keeper could only palm straight onto Connors head. With a gentle nod Connors deftly guided it between stranded keeper and near post to settle the visitors.
Around 10 minutes later and goal number 2 followed from, erm, well nothing actually ! Some good football down the right, a cross, the ball then appeared to hit Luke Brewers hand, the Abingdon defence all appealed, and the ref blew up.....Penalty ??!!!? Well its the first time ive seen a penalty given for handball in the build up Naturally up steps the Gos, to take the penalty, and before the keeper can blink hes picking the ball out of the bottom right hand corner. 2-0

Next it was the turn of Abingdon for a bit of Referee Xmas` festive cheer. A surging run into the Hungerford area resulted in a "coming togther" and as if to even the scores the ref thought the easiest thing to do was to award another equally dubious penalty. Despite being very poorly taken, (scuffed straight down the middle) the ball found its target as the home side reduced the arrears.

HT 1-2

2 minutes after the restart it was Game Over. A long ball aimed at Ben Fitch, looked like chicken feed for the tall Abingdon keeper , but as he reached up to pluck it from the sky his left ankle buckled beneath him. Now you see it, oooops wheres it gone ! Fitch took full advantage and rolled it into the net from quite a tight angle. A real video camera moment this one ! 1-3

Connors was the man with a point to prove, and he did it in some style, producing without question the goal of the night. After some superb work from Gosling & Smith the ball found Connors on the edge of the box, who although tightly marked managed to produce an exquisite lob into the far corner.

Goal drought..... what goal drought !

If you can score goals like this one, you just have to be playing !!!!

A much improved performance, some really good football again tonight at times, and the long balls were only played when it was necessary.

Well done to all. I know im quick to criticise a bad performance, but im equally quick to say well done on a good one !!

Re: Abingdon

So that makes 26 goals out of 18 games for Conners when he is the prime target in the penalty area.

Re: Abingdon

yes i can confirm Mr Powell is no longer at the club.

Meant to make mention of that in my report but forgot as we managed to turn in a decent performance without him

Also rumour had it that there were also 7 day approaches for 2 others !

Re: Abingdon

Does this mean that, due to the end of the Vase run, the budget/'expenses' will now be cut? Has someone aslo worked out that the league title is maybe now beyond our grasp? I hope not.

Re: Abingdon

After reading several of the posts on here it is evident that my old mate Clarky has to go 1/4 final of the vase, 1/4 final of league cup, currently 3rd in the league. and still'supporters' question his team selections.... its a shocking season....'sack him'

Re: Abingdon

Interested watcher, keep your tongue firmly in your cheek. The team that Clark built was his and his alone, and it has been a very successful team, giving great pleasure to the fans through the way it plays football. I think since Christmas the team lost its way a bit, not so much in its results, but in its style, but that is my opinion and my opinion is not germane. Next years team is almost certainly to be very different, but I believe that the next team will be more butterfly then chrystalis. I am now off to see Lydney play the Almonds.

Re: Abingdon

Im not so sure the tongue is in the cheeck, but more perhaps stuck up his ... ahem, as that appears to be where he is talking from.

Who has mentioned anything about Clark going anywhere, and why is it so wrong to discuss formations and strategies.

We have had a very enjoyable season, but even the best managers dont get it right all the time. Are supporters now, who afterall are the lifeblood of most clubs at this level, not allowed an opinion.
