Battle of the Borough

KP's breakdown of the game is spot on. We won the first half just. They certainly won the first 30 minutes of the 2nd half. The goal that won us the game was probably the least auspicious goal Hungerford have scored all season. If the ball had raced a tortoise the reptile would have won. Is a tortoise a reptile. Im too tired I dont care. What KP hasnt mentioned is the Battle of the Borough. Hostilities broke out in the very last minute of the game just outside the Hungerford penalty area. A cross was headed away and the next thing I saw was a Greenwich lad stretched out. Then the proverbial all hell broke loose. This was not handbags at dawn but some seriously angry young men from both sides.Bedwell collected a black eye and a red card, Shand just a red card. Two Greenwich players were also sent off. Greenwich were given a free kick just outside the box . Fortunately no deja vue. What actually kicked it off I dont think anybody really knows and if they do they are not telling. It was anugly game played on an ugly pitch; the Hungerford defence were superb. One player to very much catch the eye was the new central defender, Steve Davis.

Re: Battle of the Borough

congratulations on your last ditch victory, and good
luck in the next round.
Regarding the Greenwich lad stretched out,
if you again check out the www.kentishfootball.co.uk
report all will be explained as the reporter was standing in line with the incident,by the way he is
nothing to do with Greenwich he reports on Kent
football games, mainly from higher up the pyramid,as
we were the last team from Kent in the Vase we took
centre stage.

Re: Battle of the Borough

thank you very much know all for your best wishes..you sportsmanship does you credit.Ive read the kentish report.. I cant really comment as I only saw the lad stretched out. But obviously something happened with all that anger. I thought the ref was poor. For example, my lad was elbowed in the ribs and went down for over a minute and the ref did nothing.Hes not complaining, says it was an accident, a tussle for the ball etc but the rib might be cracked, hell go for an xray tomorrow. The ref should have stopped play but the ref was too busy strutting about. I think your managers comments about the two sides not being dirty teams is quite correct. It has been a pleasure exchanging views... are you a Mr Waters by any chance

Re: Battle of the Borough

Well watching from the half-way line very near the said Kent reporter (Alan Partridge eat your hart out), the GB no10 (Mohammed) seemed to overreact to the initial contact, and then the GB no5 started swinging and it all kicked-off.
Seemed to be quite a lot going on off the ball in the second half from both teams. GB are a good passing side but their discipline is awful. Gosling again best player on the pitch.

Re: Battle of the Borough

Well from my scouts at the game and the Non-league news article, it sounds like Gossers really stepped up to the plate and had a blinder.

Sounds like the game was ruined a bit by the rumble at the end. Ref seemed to booked random players, rather than the culprits.

Here's to Whitley Bay on the 1st

Re: Battle of the Borough

Hi JB, good to see you are back posting. J did his bit but then so did everyone else. To me the heroes were the defence because in the 2nd half they were under a lot of pressure and if Bedwell hadnt slipped as the GB lad went past him they would have kept a clean sheet (If it wasnt Bedwell I apologise)There wasnt a weak link in the side on Sat; the only mystery to me is how GB have lost so many matcvhes in the league. Actually there is a second mystery. They describe themselves as a passing side but how can any team pass on that pitch. If the pitch was a hat it would be a bobble hat.

Well hopefully H'Ford can continue their tight defence into future league games, as well as against Whitley bay.

Care to make a preiction for that game mr Gos?

Re: Battle of the Borough

yes, I tyhink we have a good chance of winning. Football, as I have said before, is a game of inches. Bit like tennis. Did I tell you I am an ex county tennis player. If you come out of your closet and ask me nicely I will tell you all about it.

Re: Battle of the Borough

I predict that we should forget about the Whitley game, and concentrate on the Witney game for this week , and then the Kidlington, and Lydney games, before even contemplating Whitley Bay.

Yes the Vase run is great for the club, and a credit to the players and managers, but the league is where we live week in week out !

So how many of Saturdays travellers will be there tomorrow? hmm i predict 5 or 6 tops !

And as for the Lydney game, perhaps Mr Gos you could let us know if there is even the remotest chance that they might contemplate playing a game at all, let alone a midweek one anytime soon ????

Re: Battle of the Borough

I agree Karl

I will not be there as I work in Bristol on Tuesdays so Witney is not that close to Bristol.

Good luck to the boys Tuesday, I know Witney had a poor result against Wantage but they will be looking to bounce back especially with some ex hungerfordians Jamie Mills & Andy Marriot in the team

Kidlington and Lydney (if on!) will not be easy either.

Re: Battle of the Borough

JB you are so right, if youve got it , flaunt it. I have been keeping my light under a bushel far too long. Of course, the county could have been Rutland. The rib of J so he tells me is just bruised. But whether he plays tonight I dont know.I wont be there.

Re: Battle of the Borough

Glad to hear about your boy! He's hit a fine run of form and its' playing a major role in the clubs success.
I was looking forward to your match report. Perhaps somebody who was there can fill us in! I couldnt make it either. Work means i struggle to get to mid-week games.
