Re: How to stay warm during winter???

I dont wear a coat and I am in N.W. Wisconsin.
I wear two sets of thermals and a big thick hooded sweatshirt. I always have a pair of gloves on the defrost that are dry and toasty warm. I rotate them a couple times per job. Dry boots with wool socks a must up here. I wear ear muff style hearing protection when useing power tools, I just keep them on during the cold. The worst thing about winter for me is working in the overly hot body shops, working up a sweat then your next couple jobs are outside. That sucks,I do not mind the cold it is the freeking wind I hate. I get wind burned a lot however, the cold is simply mind over matter... if you don't mind... then it don't matter!!!!!!!!
I was never a big fan of carhartt style coats because of all the zippers and snaps on them!!!

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

It doesn't get anywhere near as cold here as it does in Wisconsin. The low during the day is usually 40 - 45 degrees.

Cold doesn't bother me a whole lot, so I usually where a sweatshirt over my t-shirt and I always wear a hat in the winter. I usually wear jeans with a pair of thermals underneath and thick wool socks under my tennis shoes.

Like Slammer said...the worst thing about the cold weather is when the wind is blowing...and we get some strong wind here in the mountains.

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

I try to make it a point to stay in shorts for as many winter days as possible out here in Callyfornia. Ya gotta be a symbol like a robin being an auger of spring.

Fleece sweat pants may be worn early in the morning but shed. A hoodie is probably the safest thing to wear as a top just due to its lack of metal parts.

Waterproof and slip resistant shoes are key. Wet concrete is an accident waiting as one brings cars in from the rain to dry and to work on.

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

It's simple, I won't install under 40 degrees, and like Sglass, I reach for the thermostat. I like the winter months, less little red and mobile guys slapping them in while snowing! It's almost funny to watch those guys scramble around as fast as they can before thier fingers freeze, but I feel sorry for the vehicle owners! It's so much easier to get customers to realize,,,,"do you really want me to slap it in, in your driveway?" They get it quick........and I am too old to freeze, or I'm so old I freeze fast!

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

i sometimes use thermals. the best way to stay warm is to use a wind resistant thin jacket. as for socks i use moisture wicking socks(my snowboarding socks). these keep my feet warm enough and keep them dry. i also ad baby powder to my socks and boots. nothing worse than damp socks. i always keep an extra set of socks around. the great thing is it does not get to cold in s az.

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

No installs below 40* for us, I wear thermals under my pants when it gets cold out. I'm in SD/MN so it does get cold here.

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

Rotate gloves on heater, thermals, extra socks. Full face mask it retains enough heat so I dont need bulky close (no I don't wear it when I talk to the customer). Walls makes insulated bibs that have no rivits and zippers are covered by a flap so no scrathes. Most of the time I just put them on when I crawl under the van to put chains on.

Re: How to stay warm during winter???

Just knock a few teeth out and you'll blend rite in there Yankee...lol......But serious, ttech has a good suggestion with the wind breaker and snowboarding sock'z..the thermal sock'z do make yur feet sweat and wet.....I think wearing dark color'z help also..when the sun hit'z it absorb'z the heat....Fot the guy'z that don't mobile outside in the cold...God bless yaa...I wish we had it that good...But the mighty dollar rule'z,and we all have bill'z to pay.....
