39 Chevy

Ok, a shot in the dark on this one.

Had a customer today with a 39 Chevy street rod. (2door sedan)
Rear view mirror is in bad shape. I was handed the glass and asked to cut a new one. noticed right away that it is tapered. Thicker at the top and narrow at bottom. I just cut a straight piece without knowing if it would work and later found it wouldn't. Taper is so it can slide inside the chrome frame front to back for the day/night feature.
Anyone know if this mirror is available or suggestions on my options? I imagine they are already pre-cut specifically for this mirror if they are available at all. Cust wants to keep original mirror if possible, but will replace everything if need be.

Re: 39 Chevy

What about glueing "First surface mirror" (mirropane - 1/8") over it?

Re: 39 Chevy

on a car like this why would you try to glue any kind of mirror over anything. first of all if this is a show car and it came down to nit picking for 1st,2nd or third place a hack job like that would hurt.even if it's not a show car why would you cut corners like that.in this day and age you can search on the web or go swapp meets and find the real thing.these cars stand alone.... there-----there own era

Re: 39 Chevy

Sounds like a very good option. I'll give them a call in the AM. Cust will be VERY happy if we can save it!

Thanks!
