DW 653 - 64 CHEVY PU - INSTALLATION - HELP

??? the pu has fresh paint, the old gasket is gone, and I do not know how to work around the small mini visor that protrudes from the roof. It doesn't seem that the gasket can be roped in because the grove that fits over the pinchwell lip looks very deep.Plus the mini visor does not allow the ws to lay flat while you work the bottom. The gasket has a wide half and a narrower half, I believe the wide half goes on the outside. Is this a rope in? Should I put the gasket on 1st and work it in? If so, do I need 2 extra pairs of hands to hold the gasket in place or should I glue the gasket on? Any way to make the new gasket more pliable? Any advice?? thanks

Should be a rope in. The visor will likely have to be removed for the windshield to go in. It will likely take a rope and a hook tool in afew places and it won't hurt to have someone on the outside helping as well. Shouldn't be all that difficult.

As far as the new paint thats the owners problem...these people who put ten thousand dollar paint jobs on these cars and then decide to have all kinds of glass work done need to get their heads checked. I have turned down jobs for this reason.

the visor can not be removed. the roof actually sticks out over the glass about 4-5 inches

milk tost.... as we used to say...There is a hand wash that comes in a can that is a jell, I cant remember what the brand is that you should get. Put your rope in the lip of the gasket. Use a ruber calk on the gasket where it will end up inbetween the gasket and the body. My prefrence was WB300. Then use a paint brush to liberaly paint the slickem ( from the hand wash )on the gasket. Then just work the gasket over the pincheweld using the rope and a hook tool. A little hand slaping on the windshield as it works in will be needed.

first of all, how fresh is the paint? can you still smell vapors?, or have you checked it with a finger nail? what i mean by this is, find somewhere onthe truck( pinchweld if it has been painted) that is not visible and press down with your nail. if you leave a nail mark, then i would wait until the paint has cured more. not worth the headache.
you mentioned half the gasket is wider. then this is probably from a dw587. the wbl 653 should have a uniform lip all the way around. the lip on this is hollow, not solid like most. if the top roof extension is giving you a hard time, then start from the top and end at the bottom.
i normally use a hook tool for these, but rope works just fine. personal preference. however and extra pair of hands is helpful.

Put the gasket on the glass & rope in. The top goes in first, use a rope that allows at least 2 wraps around, start from the center on the top. It definitely is easier if you have help to hold the W/s up until you get the bottom at least partly lipped. I always considered these a double lip rubber, that's why I always double wrap the rope. d is right, if you lube it up real good with D & L waterless handcleaner, they are not bad(unless you have the Chrome in the rubber).
