Subaru moldings

On the Subaru windshields, FW2489/2490 that take the 2490 molding, we have recently has some issues with the molding. When it is installed, everything looks fine, but a day or two later, the molding develops a rippled look to it. We only use dealer moldings, and have done many of these installations, but the problem has only started recently. I am not sure if the sunrays are doing it or what, but was wondering if anyone else had these issues, and if so, what the solution was. Thanks.

Re: Subaru moldings

We use the original molding back over again...We found that it fits better, oem, and there are expensive from dealer....We remove the molding from car and then put in our thermodyne oven and after 10 min.of baking we submerge it into cold water and the molding actually shrinks back into oem length.......

Re: Subaru moldings

I have found that the old moldings work the best I run a small bead in the inside just so that it sticks really good. If the old one cant be used I will revese some flex trim unless it is hot outside then I will throw the new molding on the blacktop getting it warm does wonders.

Re: Subaru moldings

xs now thats original, did u send that to ripley's i'm sure they would buy it but i'm not, just offer real advice and leave the cow chips in the field. did u know after roasting marshmallows if you don't eat them all put them in a blender on high the sugar will breakdown liquify and then pour the mixture into the ice cube tray throw it in your thermodyne heater for five minutes and whammo they puff back to original !!!

Re: Subaru moldings

I'd never said leave in thermodyne oven for 5 minutes,it's more like 20 minutes and the molding actually expands from heat.Thats basic 3rd grade math.expansion when hot and contraction when cold...molding heats up and expands. At the same time the molding will loose the scretch marks and then when you remove from the oven which is running about 180 degree's(internal temperature of SIKA urethane asap).then you emerge in ice cold water(34 degree's)molding will shrick and get stiff....
I'd hope you enjoy the skooling I just gave you...........lol.....Looke here Sunday skool just got taught.........

Re: Subaru moldings

xs,

Will it shrink back to original length is the moulding has the thin metal wire in the center of it? I hope you aren't BSing cause I am going to have to try next time we are in a bind without a moulding.

I wish we had the room to have a grill in the back..But we do have a Weber in back of the shop..We usually grill on a friday if everyone gets back early...lol....

I cant take the credit for that idea,I actually read it on the techboard on another foruem. It sounded crazy for me also..But when I had a oportunity I tried it and It worked..dont get me wrong it wont shrink up like new but you have to trim it very little..

Re: Subaru moldings

i've only had the rippling happen in the cold weather.when it does happen i just hit it with a heat gun and it falls into place.the flexi trim does work up side down.where the mldg is so costly with cash cust: i recomend the univ. mldg which will look ok but will save them a good amount of $$$$$ cash cust:shop around---sale made
